Once in flower topping does very little if anything. What it does do is create codominate tops that will split easily if tied down or they get too heavy. LST is best.

Topping works best from early veg to about 2 weeks before flowering. If you just switched the lights there is still time to take a short pinch off.

Noooo don't do it I did the same trying things out and big mistake I lost my center cola.
I topped right after bud sites set I know to late, but now I have a split plant but just as small as side branches if you get what I am saying?
I guess energy of the plant went to rebuild and not make me bud!
Hope this help.

It's type dependent upon what flower formation will develop. Some types I have are able to go 2 weeks in flower and be topped, considering you want more tops or have height restrictions...and don't care about losing the big colas.

Other types I have I wouldn't think of topping around 2 weeks before flower.

I feel like topping them while already flowering would kind of be counter intuitive to the bud forming process. My vote is for LST, don't be scare/lazy.

Some good answers above, IMO you would only top a plant, before or after inducing flowering, if you wanted to set her back compared to her neighbours.... If one plant is too big, top her to hold her back so she does not dwarf and shade the others around.

If you want low height, with good yields, just LST, best just one time and flower very soon after or you get a thick jungle.

i wouldn't.
significant changes happening within.
at least a week before flip to avoid compounding stress.
bend the stem, don't pinch it off.
it will recover, but may add to your flowering time...
good luck.

Topping during flowering is only really good for reducing the size of your plant/yield.

If a particular cola gets too tall I would usually snap it over, supercropping style, make sure to have some tape handy just in case.

If you want to stay low then ideally you would scrog or lst in the first place.

sometimes u dont top right and your tops buds shoots up a extra 1.5 ft, that top bud might get big but when u could of topped and brought 90 percent of the plant closer to the light u actually loose yeild for the sake of one bud that might be 5 grams more, i dont automatically assume if u top u loose yeild i think thats b.s, im just wondering about the hormones, hormones are life, if i can top before they rev up then your fine i guess, id guess just before flip is the latest one can flip, thx one n all.

this is were u hobby dorks hang on my ''5 grams more'' and post your heart n soul n pride n 7.5 gram tops, as u should.
