Anybody who plays the market is part of the problem.

Educate yourself, grow your wealth over time through calculated risk taking and hard work, and use that wealth to help the world as you see fit.

Anybody who invests in a college education is 'playing the market' because life is a series of trading one thing for another, whether you like it or not.

In fact, if you can skim some pennies from the penny skimmers in wall st, you will be doing all that much more good. Don't worry you won't be a cog in the wheel. You will sucking blood from blood suckers.

Otherwise, play the markets in a different way by trading other things, like your time for a good salary. or, open up a store using your expertise in something.

Anyway you slice it, if you are not doing these things, you can be doing more for the world. Your aversion to investing is hurting the cause, not helping it.

That's everyone with a 401K, pension plan, etc etc. Just about every productive citizen is "playing" in the market. You'd be surprised at how many people don't know their 401k is tied to the equities market. Or that fixed income managers (pensions) get their returns from "playing in the market".

Markets are not fundamentally bad. The market is an organic entity and has been around for a long long time. What is tragic is that it's been commandeered by the central planning cartel such that equities and bonds trade mainly on government intervention. This will fail. This is the problem.

Everyone playing in the market right now is just riding in the bus. Day traders will be able to jump out of the bus when it gets bad. Pensions and 401K will go over the edge with Bernanke.

FYI, I shut off my 401K a while ago, but that doesn't mean that I don't like to watch the market. Just because some people are literate in economics and matters of global finance interest them doesn't mean they are part of the problem. I believe the lack of economic literacy is a major factor on why this country is in serious trouble.

love this...

Oooh I thought he meant playing as speculating.... people tend to blame traders alot, which is very silly.

In that sense I do "play the market" I guess.

Geezz man. So many people, so many meanings of word compositions...
Oh wait... the 99% is educating folks about economy nowadays.... See they know what's up, be sure about that ;)

Unfortunately you're correct.

The sharks took advantage of people who were too busy workin their asses off.

Those with 401k are exempt i guess, we never had control of that.

The system needs the people who play the game.

What if everybody stopped playin the game and did only what they need to survive with as little as possible.

The consumption disease has infected America and the West

Please explain my aversion to investing helping the cause?

Thanks for wanting to help me out but i've lived on the outside edge of the system for over 20 years i don't even have a cell phone or tv and soon, will be livin in a jungle in SE Asia.

I have no debt, help people as much as i can, NEVER have i leeched off the tit of the system or anybody.

It's funny, people assume those who support OWS are destitute and laden with debt...no it's not funny it's kind of sad...

Don't even drink coffee lol

If we keep on the track we are on we may be forced to. We'll still be playing the game, but the rules are going to be quite different. As far as my hope for us getting our act together.....I personally believe we have already crossed the Rubicon into another episode in history of monetary madness and all it's consequences.

i don't believe it would reduce down to the least of human potential. if we abandon 'the game', we are essentially realizing it is too destructive & even pointless, or rather, that the point/goal isn't worth pursuing at the costs associated... there must be a better way. that doesn't mean that another value system won't/can't take it's place... i see that another necessarily will... and the game will change.

i'm no prognosticator, but doubt the dominant sentiment in life will be to do the very least possible such that everything else crumbles, including social order. i'm more or less hoping for the current times to reach a tipping point where we will see radical systemic changes... basically a new order emerging from an otherwise chaotic system. can't predict what that will end up looking like, just hopefully radically different. it will emerge from our current consciousness however, so there is influence we can have to what that outcome will actually be. doesn't have to be the dissolution of societal progression... we might even champion this anew. just a different set of values we base our actions upon is all. joy & pride are very powerful motivators... as is social acceptance... as is the satisfaction of helping another person. doesn't have to be money.

You are playing the game your way and i commend you for both support of the ows, actually giving a shit (unlike most of the world), and your contributions in helping people. Seriously, that is not as common as I'm sure many here would like it to be.

I only disagree with the notion that we are somehow doing wrong by taking advantage of what little free enterprise that is left. For me, this movement is about restoring capitalism and individual rights over old boys club rights.

I'm with you InJoy. To me it is about the 99% deciding new rules for the game. It would definitely help things along that people "pull out" of the system as it is now and reinvest/reinvent themselves in a different way. A collective paradigm shift if you will, away from the old form of capitalism and towards. . . .

i sense a disturbance in the force. this thing seems to be getting wheels. all the far-right loudmouths are throwing everything they can against it, calling them "communists" "antisemetics", even "terrorists". it smells a bit of desperation, and it ain't washing ... too many people smell the bullshit, too many feeling the pain.

History is being written everyday, as increased support is needed/required, answers will need to be clearly defined...chinks in the armor appear.

We'll see how it shakes out
