Quick questions on a/c's and sealed rooms

I have a 11x13 room that im dividing to 11x4. 4x600 sog.

Room has a window.

So basically do I use the ac in the window? Or hook it up to the 11x4 and make a ac box or exhaust ac to room then vent outside?

Just a little confused and hungry. Thanks for stopping by

Whenever possible use a window. Why complicate things when ya don't have to? Know what I mean:blowbubbles:

For sure. K.I.s.s. to the max. The window does see some foot traffic other than that smell would be a huge thing.

Thanks for the input guys

If its sealed then why use the window? just drain the water to a bucket and use it to water your plants or just throw it out. use co2 and there will be no need for fresh air.

What do you mean? If the ac is in the window, it'll be chilled by the outside air. If its in the room, it needs boxing off and ducts to outside air. I converted a window banger for in room use for my build. $30 in collars, sheet metal, rivets, expanding foam, and duct tape, and a few hours and bam, ac with 2 x 6" ducts.

Ok ok. Im getting it. So leave the a/c in the window. Do i h

How about the 11x4 walled off room. I haven't decided on a/c hoods or batwings but do u think it wont get to hot in there?

Sorry for not being clear its hard to write from my phn

The 11x4 room would have a intake and exhaust as well? Scrubbers in both? Almost got it guys. :) thank all of you.

A window banger in a window on a sealed room will leak smell and co2. If neither is an issue then no worries. If they were, I would go to the DIY AC Box thread and build that. It is hard to get the window bangers to be smell proof from what I have read. A mini split of couse would be awesome but for 2400 watts total 10000 tru BTUS should do it, 14 would be better. There are some some decently priced 14000BTU portable dual hose ACs on Ebay for like $450, takes care of ducting and all just a little help sealing the unit for max smell protection.

OP - if you're constructing a room in a room, seal up the grow box really well and use a scrubber to exhaust the grow box into the main room. Ac the whole room. Duct the lights out the window too btw. You need a TON more ac (like a half ton per lamp almost) if you don't duct the hoods.

Portable ac's are harder to seal than a window banger. And more costly and less efficient. I'm really happy with my little window banger, ducted up it works great! Obviously use fans to push air through the condenser core. And even if you don't modify the window banger and use it in a window, make sure to greatstuff the unit inside it's cover. This is critical especially when ducting it, and a damn good idea even for non grow ac use.

Check craigslist BTW, super good deals to be had these days. And read up on why people don't like portables.. They underperform so badly.

Im throwing my 12K BTU window banger up in a couple of hours. 8x8 2400w sealed up with a window. Pure, how exactly will the window unit leak? And also will it work in colder weather, it getting a bit chilly up here in Washington. got me thinking..

There's tubing running through the divider between the hot and cold side, often both fans share the same motor. It's a good idea do blacken the styrofoam divider and add a little insulation were needed.

A window unit will usually not work in cold weather. I have used one in cold weather before but it had to run 24/7. I would run the unit inside and utilize the heat for comfort.

I do plan on running the unit 24/7 for dehumidification reasons. Running it 24/7would only be a temp fix. if i were to bring the unit inside and build a box for it and vent the heat. what do I do with the 85 pints a day dripping out the back?

Alright with summer around the corner I have to get this down

I'm building a 5x11ft sectioned off room in a room and I can't figure out where to put the a/c. I have 3 1ks in air cooled hoods. I'm thinking of putting the window ac in the grow room and vent into the bedroom. How hot do you think it'll get? The lights were going to pull air from the lung room and exhaust into it aswell... and a 6" pushing air out the window

Or b... put ac in window and cool lung room. 6"fan on intake 8" off lights exhaust..

Any ideas?

It's going to create a ton of heat. My setup is kind of like this. It's a 12 x 4 box in a room. The box is sealed and has a window ac hanging out of it that exhausts into the outside room. In the summer, it will easily get over 110 up there. would likely be 95-100 without the added heat. Right now I can heat that very poorly insulated space to 70 with the ac keeping the inside at 75. this is when it's in the 30's at night.

Most of the heat is being generated by the dehumidifier thats running balls out 24/7.
