root:

i tried to steer the convo into something other than bad vs. good nonsense into "what needs to be done"

i even made some suggestions but it seems no one is actually interested in solutions nearly as much as they are for bitching...

Exactly that

Banks making money from people would be the best thing banks could do.
It's how traditional banking operated in the old days.

Unfourtunately it's not the case today. Today, through Fractional reserve lending, banks just multiply the existing currency, which is actually much worse than profiting from costumers.

If people woke up today and realised how worthless all the paper, banks would fall right away, because there is not too much of real capital behind them.

Here is a priceless quote that came up when I googled occupy oakland

"Everywhere I went, I encountered people taking drugs — mostly marijuana. Many of them were understandably camera-shy. But this guy stood right on the main walkway and puffed away on a drug pipe."

Don't be such a rube, Dudesome. Nobody cares about about your Russian oligarch blood-line nor your personal take on Marx.

The issue is not how much profit a bank earns imo. It is the means in which they they 'make' the profit that people have an issue with. If it is legit, let them make as much as they can.

However, if there profit requires trillions in bailout money, illegal and shady practices in the trading business, and scamming the american public, even the most die hard free market advocates have an issue.

Characterizing anyone who criticizes the way banks have made profits, as having an issue with the profits themselves, is creating a straw man. A very common practice amongst those that want a simple, uni dimensional view.

Hey dag, if it isn't the pot calling out the kettle. You argue/post absolute bullshit for a year then all of a sudden want me to forgive and forget all the muck and slut you spouted so you can have a have a civil conversation with me? Today ain't that day dag. I don't need your invitation to share my viewpoints in this public forum and will share them when I see fit.

What i find funny is that there is usually underlying belief of the 'the 99% are just too lazy to become the 1%' that has been expressed explicitly in this thread several times.

This is simply not the case imo. Out of the people in the 5% that i've had the experience in knowing/doin business with, there are many that were HANDED there wealth on a silver platter, and others that worked there ass off to get it.

Those of us that have worked for it, STILL had advantages afforded to us that other people have not. Does that mean that anyone else in our situation would've done as well? of course not. But the opportunity needs to exist in order for the hard work to translate into wealth.

The attitude that people are not wealthy ONLY because of lack of work ethic or brains reeks of elitism, a narrow world view, and egocentrism. This would be analogous to saying something ridiculous like 'ALL RICH ARE EVIL' or 'ALL RICH PEOPLE WORK HARDER AND ARE SMARTER'... ludicrous.

It is this same attitude imo, that we tokers have to constantly deal with regardin our beloved plant. Quite frankly, I'm suprised to see the elitism on a board dedicated to gardening because the old heads I know (some very succesful) do not think this way.
