High Times Creative Director Steven Hager was the first person to track down the Waldos and publish their account of the origins of the term. Hager wrote "Are You Stoner Smart or Stoner Stupid?" (October 1998)

I've heard variations on that story. I've also heard that classes ended around 4:00, and by the time everyone was able to meet up to get high it was 4:20.

Another story is that a lot of people get off work at 4:00, and it takes ~20 minutes to get home, making 4:20 the time the working Joe sparks up.

I worked 7:00 - 4:00 for years, so the latter makes sense to me, even if it isn't the actual truth behind the myth.

Thats the story either the history channel or msnbc gave in one of their marijuana shows, not saying they are credible but they actually interviewed the people that supposedly came up with the term.

I know why i don´t care about. But people try to establish worthless Terms.

This is the story I've heard. I also heard that the reason this small group of kids reference became so widely dispersed to the level it is today is this: some of these guys got to be friends with the Grateful Dead when they were just getting started and they travelled all over the country with the band as part of the band's entourage. They continued to use the term 4:20 wherever they went and eventually it became part of the lingo of all stoners.

Although I do always partake in smoking more weed then usual on 420 cause in my city there some really big legalization rallys so I have got to support the cause... I think 420 is kinda silly. I smoke weed everyday anyway and its just another day and I hate how it falls on hitlers bitrthday for fuck sakes.

Many ppl have died on 4-20...fuck Hitler, he is the least of the least--
