not really. It is more about ending their loopholes which allow them to pay nothing. Also ending the Bush Tax cuts, and going back to Clinton's Pay as you go, isn't really raising taxes, it is just ending a Bush Loophole he made for his Cronies.
Step 1. add term limits to all public offices, and end the reign of the career politician. aka the corporate puppet. when this happens the country can start to turn around. Until then public office will just be one more thing for sale.
It is more important to end loop holes, bad bureaucracies, bad regulations, and subsidization, than to raise taxes which would still have loop holes set up to avoid those taxes. Then to cut debt logical sacrifice must be made first. cutting the EPA and teachers unions isn't the answer, that's for sure. focus on the big spenders like the Pentagon, and the 8 federal police forces. It isn't that I love public education, it is just that education is a drop in the bucket compared to military, and paramilitary private contractors. the Pentagon has had Billions go missing with no one held accountable.
A small government that can do nothing for the business world is not something a crooked business man would want to buy control of, nor would the public servant be tempted to sell his small amount of power.

i am in denial ? if you look at my posts i don't think i ever layed the blame at the consumers feet. is there anyone out there that actually trusted banks before the collapse? my point is proven out by simple math (i will type it slow this time) ....... if you can't afford something, you can't afford it and it is not anyone else's "civic duty" to explain to me or you what we can or can't afford. i went through the public education system back when they told you to live within your means. the message changed at some point to "more credit cards are good for you ... trust us", and i just kept running the math i had already learned. while a lot of good people i know were going into debt over their heads i was asking them "how the fuck can you afford this?" and they were all saying "ohhh dude the bank is my friend" ....... looks like they should have run the math.
as far as my friend goes ....... yes he did tell me i should do the ARM ( that is what every single broker out there was selling at the time) but when i asked him too he got me what i wanted. you sound like the guy bitching and moaning about the price of the car you just bought with money you don't have and blaming the salesman (who you know works on commission) for selling you the fully loaded model instead of saying to you "look fool you don't need or deserve this, so buy the base model" ............ you would report him to the manager laugh at him as he was packing his desk and bought that fully loaded ride from the next guy who was willing to tell you life owed you something ........... and of course it would be his fault for not being honest with you.

This is a great point. The lending standards were intentionally LOWERED so that more people would qualify for these high yield loans, for the purpose of selling them to foreign investors, as AAA credit.
Then, when country wide /national city fell into a shit storm from having a bunch of bad loans, here comes BOA with fresh bailout money to buy the crap companies. We the taxpayers had to pay for our own mistakes as well as the mistakes of the banks, while having nothing to do with the ponzi scheme that was run.
