I'm animal lover all day, but when you have lions, tigers, and bears(oh my)let loose in a community where people live on a moments notice, what do you do for protection of the people?! The owner let the animals go like a dickhead, then commited suicide. The police had no other choice...Its a very small town, and they don't have a local zoo.They had to bring people/transquilizers in from Columbus, OH. Sad event for the the animals/people living the community.

Animal lover here and I think most cops are dumb, but I also think they had no choice. Sucks all those animals had to die.

I'm not really sure of the best course of action to take but there seems to be no attempt made to even try and save the animals, shooting would seem like a last resort not the first.
Cant help but get the feeling that they would have shot the monkey had they come across it?

it's all about TIME, if they had all the time in the world they coulda brought in tranqs. but this is the real world and no one could convince some tigers & lions to stand around nearby so we can round up some vets and tranq guns. I'm sorry the critters are the ones that suffer but remember they were animals kept in captivity not where they belong, chances are they weren't happy/healthy.
glad the cops did what they had to, to keep people safe.

A kid gets eaten alive by a bengal tiger while playing in his backyard, in the suburbs, in ohio, far from any populations of dangerous animals. There is a subsequent public uproar when it is revealed that the authorities were limited to darts, when bullets are far more effective.

That is what they are trying to avoid.

It's sad, but what must be done. It would take far longer to round up these animals with tranquilizers.

And jesus especially shoot the monkeys. They creep me right the fuck out.

The guy had like 20 acres but had like 300 animals. What I heard is he let them loose then killed himself. I think it happened at night or dusk, so cops had nightgoggles on. if they had them. Someone must have given the ok to just straight out shoot any animals on site, because the guy had like regular animals and defenseless animals like camel, llama, sheep and stuff. And only 6 animals are reported as being wrangled up. So hicks were shooting at like sloths and koala and shit as well as lions and tigers. Not sure how many animals actually escaped. Bears would be ok.

people should not be allowed to own lions, tigers, etc., that's freakin nuts. you need a zoo for them, with funding, vets, safety measures etc. look what they had to do to those poor critters. apparently ohio has the most lax laws in the u.s. regarding ownership of wild animals ... and also the highest incidence death and injury due to them.

i'm picturing the monkey with herpes in some dive bar, smoking a cig with a shot of whiskey in hand trying to pick up some skanky bar fly

Sad, sad story here.my feeling is the cops have no choice in this situation. Risk someone being killed by them, or do what, IMHO needs to be done. With that said, I am passionate when it comes to wildlife.My feeling is this,when I was younger, the folks took me to the zoo and stuff,I seemed to think or wonder as a child,is this right. I remember watching Mutual Of Omahas Wild Kingdom and I loved that show. The zoo somehow just made me upset,even as a young un. I then ,when I got older,refused to go to the zoo,and also, the circus upset me as well.I remember back in, I think....84-85 the Ringling Bros. Barnum Baily circus had a real Unicorn!!! Yeah,they tortured a goat of some sort and did unimaginable harm to it . Cut off a horn,cracked it's skull and moved the other horn to the center in some way!!!WTF!!! It really saddens me to see all the beautiful creatures with 100s of miles of territory in their natural enviroment,reduced to a cage or even a few acres.Sorry for the rant,BUT, i'm sure some of you feel the same.ALL zoos should be closed,ALL circus animals should be released to their natural enviroment. If you want to see those animals...travel!! If you want to see,bears,turkeys,coyote,deer,fox,wild boar,hawks,bald eagle,blue heron,mountain lions,bobcats,ect....come spend a week with me. Sorry again for the rant.I love the critters.
