600 Vert: Ak-47 in coco coir

I had an absolute killer pheno of AK47 about 5 or 6 years ago, instant hitter, after a few puffs your vision was starting to mess up, very euphoric high but like an idiot I lost her, she could yield too. What's the deal with today's AK47, anyone tried any recently? I'm tempted to buy a few packs but I've heard too many say that it isn't what it used to be, getting this more and more with breeders losing their P1 stock :(

I bought a pack in 2008. I don't how it was before but the 5 or 6 Females I grew were rocket fuel. Finished 50-65 days, decent yield. I'd never turn it down.

My seeds were from 2009 & I got them from the 'boo. Of the two moms I grew out I had a 10 week pheno & a 9 week pheno. Both produced. The 10 week pheno from this grow could pass for Kali Mist in most ways.

I try not to turn anything down! Glad to hear you had a good experience as well.

Hoods are so damn expensive...

Bare vert bulbs ftw :jump:

Seriously! I bare socket, ballast & bulb, along with a fan+filter, a honeywell fan & some 3 gallon pits with coco coir & you're set. I have a Sentinel climate control unit sitting around, along with cooltubes, hoods, etc. Hindsight is always 20/20 I guess. . .

HGO - Their is a really old strain of AK-47 running around the hills here ....I am trying to track it down BUT the peeps that have it are really on the down lo about sharing it, these are REAL old school growers who keep top strains for DECADES not just years. I was lucky enough to get one called "90 Day Wonder" and we LOST IT FUCK!!!!!!! It was AWESOME, hit you like a fucking Mack truck and yielded large HARD buds.....

I hope you can get ahold of a good strain of AK-47 I am looking for one for my outdoor project next year

Vert is the way Self. I just showed a friend my vert and told him to line his room with 6 mil plastic. He had been dragging his feet for 3 month's because of the cost. Then he saw my set up and he bought his stuff. Which is good because I had clones for him last month. Now they are almost 30 inches tall and I need the room.

I'm going to start a colloidal silver experiment with my AK keeper. That way I can keep her in "seed form" just in case.

Casey's Dream @ Day 73 of Flowering

Casey's Dream @ Day 73 of Flowering

Casey's Dream from House of Love

The tape measure is set to exactly 3' & that's a container that holds a true 3 gallons. This plant was added to the grow late, so by the time she made it into the flowering room she was already being blocked by large AK spikes. Given her great growth pattern & vigor, I trust she would have been larger and yielded more if mono cropped or given the space she deserves. She's been flushing for a little over 3 weeks.

A typical bud. They smell like Blue Dream with a little bit of the Blueberry lineage coming through in the smell as well.

picture.php

These are some top buds. They are dense with a few foxtails poking up. I've been harvesting quite a few different kinds of plants lately & this has me intrigued more than any other plant. I can't wait to get my hands on her final product and give it a shot, especially because this plant, along with the 5 other Casey's crosses I've got going, are all in the running for the position of B's new #1 mom. Next round should be the deciding factor.

picture.php

The lower buds were most affected by the blocked light & stingy space she was in. They still look good though. I can't really see any buds that would be considered popcorn. Trimming is going to be a breeze too.

All things considered, the size of the product is fine the way it is, but once again, hopefully this will only get better with time & effort.

Harvest commences now. . .

Thoughts on Initial Silica Experiences

Thoughts on Initial Silica Experiences

I'm not sure I will ever say this in public again, so pay attention... Use silica in your feeding regimen. Silica is the secret to super killer pot. It makes your pot burn 3 times better, and the high is three times higher. Shhhhhhhh!!! Don't tell everyone. ;) But remember, I was the first to say it, and right here in your thread. ;) Silica is the missing key from most indoor gardens... and most people who use it don't have a clue that it is helping their herb burn better and get them higher... they just think it's for plant strength and disease resistance! The advice to use silica is the best advice I can give for the grower who wants to achieve pot that burns even better than a cigarette. Tobacco is grown in sandy soil, and has access to lots of silica. ;)

I had so many new things going on this last run that I completely forgot that I used silica for the first time. I added Pro-TeKt Silica to both my veg & flowering mixtures at a rate of 1tsp/gallon from the day CC wrote the above post. When I fed the plants water without nutrients to prevent buildup in my medium, the silica was left out as well.

Truth be told, I've only smoked a gram or two of the AK-47 myself because I've been vapeing oil lately. It took a conversation with a buddy to remind me about the change of routine. When my buddy (fellow IC Mag member) arrived home with the jar of my AK, he commented about how well it burned & how potent it was. Now, I used to grow & live with this person in SoCal, and he's been growing the same extremely potent cut of LA Confidential for about 5 years, so when he says something is potent, I listen up. When prodded further about the burn characteristics, he said the only way he could explain it was that when he puts the AK nugs in his grinder, it comes out as the perfect consistency and burns like a cigarette. He didn't know the plants had silica in their feeding regimen or that I was even experimenting with it when he gave me that feedback. He assumed it was a characteristic of the strain itself. On top of that, we exchange top-shelf bud all the time with not much said after the jar is handed over, so to hear him rave about those specific characteristics the exact time he happens to get the silica-charged ganj was very re-assuring. I myself doubt it's coincidence.

If I had that much assurance about the validity of the other supplements I've used in the past, I'd probably still be using them! :plant grow:

Final Numbers. . .

Final Numbers. . .

I just vacuumed out my vertical garden and threw out the last of the old coco & fan leaves from harvest. All in all I'm very pleased with the products produced & the knowledge gained. As always, I'm very appreciative of all the individuals who make IC Mag so great.

For those of you who have followed from the beginning, here's a final count of all the plants flowered & their resulting weights. . .

  • The four AK-47's in 3-gallon containers that made up my main harvest yielded 623 grams
  • The single LA Confidential in a 1-gallon pot that was added late yielded 14.5 grams.
  • Combined together, the two AK-47's in 1-gallon pots that were added late yielded 52 grams. I forgot to photograph these at harvest. . .sorry!
  • The last plant to be harvested was House of Love's Casey's Dream, which was in a 3-gallon pot & yielded 80 grams.

The trim and popcorn buds also yielded 7.8 grams of absolute amber, 9 grams of high quality hash oil, plus I still have a few ounces of popcorn bud to process.

Looking forward to my next run which should be flipped to 12/12 around December 20 or so. . .

I have started using silica for the last months and the leaves seem a lot thicker, almost rubbery

I've noticed that too. To me they seem more like outdoor leaves than they did before. My leaves also seem to go through less dramatic swings in terms of springy leaves, droopy leaves, springy leaves, droopy leaves, etc. . . it's a little more consistent now.

IMHO, a wise $10 upgrade to any grow.

Nice pull! So that comes out to 1.28 gpw if my math is right. Congratz!

I only used Silica during veg and I cut it off during flower. I am going to reintroduce it for the 7th and 8th week of flower I'm hoping to see similar results. You have had a very productive season my friend.
