I use a 2 cup mason jar, hexane not quite covering the bud, shake 90 seconds and immediately pour through a coffee filter. In, out, very fast.
Using a two cup slow cooker (35 watt crock pot), cook for a couple hours, oil will be runny but very thick.
I invested in a $750 vacuum pump as I do this a lot. Vacuum is put to the slow cooker for ten minutes, or until the mix quits bubbling.
Just over 75 percent THC depending on bud trim. Stays soft and runny for up to 2 years, possibly longer, but that is the oldest lost bottle I have found. It worked fine and still dripped off the end of a paper clip.
Without the vacuum the hexane will not completely purge until over 275 degrees, killing a major portion of the THC and making it taste just horrible.
I'm new, no idea what is best, but this is what I have done since 2004. Isolated in interior Alaska, I do not get out much.
Thanks for shaing bro!
I have let hexane soak for 12 hours without picking up crap. Unlike butane, which is very low, hexane has zero water solubility.
A vacuum definitely helps, but for those without a vacuum pump, re-dissolving the HHO extract in 190 proof and boiling that off, will help jostle any remaining hexane molecules out of the solution.
If you don't have a black light, the remaining hexane is also easy to taste at a fraction of TLV, and will taste like gasoline, because gasoline is a mix of pentane and hexane.
For ya'll whom haven't used hexane before, read up on the MSDS and note its flammability and explosive index. For safety's sake, do it outside.
Even outside, I use a fan to blow the vapors away and disperse them as they evaporate, just like I do with butane.
PS: I use hexane in the lab for alchemy, but it is inside a boiling flask with an Alhin condenser keeping it there.
