600w hps bulb

I am getting back into this hobby.:jump: My new room is almost done and I am going to be running 4 600w HPS lights. I have 3 sunsytem 1 600w ballast and 1 quantum 600w digital ballast.

I am looking for a quality HPS bulb that will burn in my old ballast and in my new digital. Are some bulbs still not compatable with digital ballast or is that not an issiue anymore?

I need a bulb that is easy to get, I dont mind ordering over the net. Thanks for your help.

There are a lot of good bulbs out there. Big Tomato [US] has 600w Lumateks on special for $69.98. Service from them has been good the 3 times I've ordered from them. Got a bad bulb, and they were great and fast with the replacement. Good Luck. -granger

sylvian grolux works great..

I think he means SYLVANIA. They and Osram are sister companies, Id recommend the Osram Plantastar, first bulb engineered from the ground up for growing (great spectrum). Quality German stuff, I think they're widely available on the net.

I'm using an Ushio 600 watt and loving it. It's running on a 400/600 next gen ballast without a skip, and by skip I mean it hasn't burned my shit down. I don't know what the Sylvania goes for, but I got the Ushio for just under 75 shipped.

sylvania, osram, ushio, hortilux are all good bulbs. i've run them all digital, and traditional mags.

currently i'm using quantum ballasts with digilux bulbs. supposedly enhanced spectrum, and about 10,000 lumens increased output. made specifically for digi's.

can't attest to those figures, but i've run them and i like them. CAP makes them.

one thing, normal bulbs are said to lose a bit of awesome when dimmed in a digi ballast. considering that ideally one would replace bulbs after 3 sessions or so (in my opinion for my own methods) it's probably not a big deal.

i've talked to tech from ballast companies though, and they say to shut down, let the bulb gasses cool, and *then* re strike the bulb if you're going to run it dim. not just toggle on the fly.

i personally don't care so much for the difference between bulbs. i drop as many lumens on my plants as i can. i see it like bullets. there may be differences in particular bullets, but really, it's about getting motherfucking lead on target.

welcome back :)
