600w adjust-a-wing 6" from plant too close?

Hi everyone,

I have a 600 watt adjust a wing on a light rail only moving back in forth about 2 feet. I have been running the light about 6 inches away from the plants and the leaves all look good. I dont see any burn from the lamp. I have been reading though and cant find anyone putting their light this close, but the adjust-a-wing instructions said this was ok with super spreader.

Only thing I can tell is it seems the top buds arent quite as oily as some of the lower ones, could this be due to the light being too close?

Because its on a mover I'm trying to keep it as close as possible and from my understanding if the leaves are not showing heat damage it should be ok, but I want to produce quality over quantity so any input would be appreciated!

Not as oily? In 12 years of teaching others to grow online, I've never heard of that as a concern. Watch your leaves and bud tops, they'll tell you if the light is too close

it depends on 2 things:your ventilation sytem & the temperature outside indoor
lower the lamp until it get to 95°F, make sure to meassure from the tip of the plats!.. but i wouldnt get it clorer than 6 inches though.. if you stick your hand underneath the lamp does it burn or is it bearable?
edit:vamo grateful dead!

It's not all about heat. Too much light is too much light. I can't speak for the adjusta wing, but running water cooled lights with 65 degree water I get better results from 24" away. Any closer and the plants just get pale and produce less.

Do you have the reflector flat? seems like you would have no spread that close. I often run my wing style reflectors pretty flat to reduce the hot spots.

I too thought more light was better and close as you could get was best. I then started noticing that the plants that were 2-3ft away were healthier and in turn produced better product. I'm better off raising the lamp and focusing the reflector to cover the most area as evenly as possible.

I have the adjust a wing and I tend to agree 24" - 36" seems to be good.

if you run your lamp close with a mover it is good to have the mover on a separate timer than the lights so you can have the mover run for an additional 15 to 20 minutes after the light has shut down to prevent scorching the tops closest the hot lamp
