Tent within a closet ... Suggestions?

Hi everyone, I'm getting ready to get back into gardening and wanted some of the great advice that I've gotten here in the past. Please keep in mind this all came about just a couple of days ago and not that much thought has gone into it yet, so all suggestions are gladly accepted.

So here's where I'm going with it:

I've got a closet that is 4.75 feet wide, and about 2.25 feet deep:

I was thinking of putting this inside the closet:

For lighting I was looking at either a 600watt hps (w/ possibly an agromax bulb) or experimenting with the 126w Penetrator LED or the 357 magnum LED.

I'd like to cut a hole in the ceiling of the closet and send my scrubbed exhaust into the attic.

I want a tent because I do not want to make any permanent changes to the closet other than the hole in the ceiling. I considered a larger tent to fill the space (i.e. more bud) but I was concerned I would not have the room on the sides of the tent for exhaust. I guess it all depends on what type of lighting used.

Anyone have any experience growing in a 2x3 tent? if so, what were your yields? how many plants? I come from doing microgrows so I'm excited to get bigger yields. I really need to consider a mother chamber too, somewhere in the mix... definitely wanna be perpetual.

Thanks!!

It's completely redundant. If you need to use the closet, which I recommend ditching and just using the room with a tent in it....just cut the hole and be done with it. If you are using any sort of HID lighting system..heat is going to be a major issue...so you will need a proper intake/exhaust system.

Plus, they are so freakin small..and eventually you are going to want to expand. Just skip all of that and get the tent...lock the door...and sleep in the living room.

Don't forget odor control!

Well I forgot to mention I want to be stealth. It's a guest bedroom and on rare occasion guests stay. I guess I could ditch the tent and use the entire closet.. only problem is intake.. ughhh.. decisions..

I guess I could get a bigger tent so I can produce a shit ton more... and just lock the door and tell people it's a dump in there and no one is allowed... lol

Do it up dude all you need to do is cut holes for intake and exhaust or you can keep the closet door cracked open for intake or get some louvers for the closet door. If there is an empty attic above your closet that works great you can run your ducting straight up into the ceiling/roof. All warm air would be exhausted from the growing area that way. Any holes you cut can easily and cheaply be patched up when you remove the setup someday.

I have my current grow in a tent in my bedroom closet. It is a 18x30x36 tent in a sliding two door closet with one door most the way slid open.

the closet isnt much bigger than the tent itself so you wouldnt be able to have the door closed on the closet anyway with the tent inside. it can work if your closet is like 4 times the size of the tent... but in your case i would use the whole closet and work on lightproofing the doors.
if you have an attic above then you could cut a hole in the closet ceiling put the fan up there where it would be quieter - then you just need an intake low down in the closet.

I use my tent in a closet and it gets annoying at times. I have 6" exhaust which just fits....Other than that I prefer runnin the tent vs the whole closet. I may lose some room, but gain control ability...

I'm glad I didn't read your post four years ago, because that's exactly what I did for my 1m x 1m x 2m secret Jardin that I used in the signature grow. It's in a closet with 3 inches to spare in the floor space . I vent directly in and out through louvers. My ambient temps in the tent are 3 deg F above ambient in the adjacent room with 500 watts of LED's using a Can 33 and 6" fan for exhaust and passive intake.

Setting it up inside the closet with only 3" of wiggle room was a complete bear but now I know I have negative pressure inside the tent (the sides bulge in slightly due to differential pressure) odor control is thereby more assured. The double light barrier is also assuring during flowering "troublesome" varieties that may hermie with light leaks (eg Chemdog)

To each his own, the variables may have different weights in the formulae used to guide decisions..

hi hempyguy, the point i was making is that you cant use the closet as your 'room' with the tent inside and vent into the closet unless the closet is a lot bigger than the tent, it sounds like you are venting and intaking into the room that the closet is in and that of course works fine. it sounds like realistik is trying to avoid cutting holes in his closet and, with so little space to vent into/out of the tent there will be too much heat and not enough fresh air. even if he uses the tent with the exhaust in to the attic like he suggests he will still have to vent in directly from his guest room - and that takes away one main reason for having a tent. if usung the tent is easier than sorting the closet out then cool - but i will still need to have a passive intake from the room

i my self work a good cupboard within a small room scenario in my loft, i vent air into the closet from the bedroom below and out from the closet into the small room i made in the loft. this allows the warm air to heat the space round the cabs and reduce the prolems of cold in the winter

It's all good Verdant Green, just saying that your post would have prevented me from trying a setup that has really worked. Your observations are good ones.

One solution would be if you cut a hole in your closet, the same size and location as the tents exhaust is. This way there is nothing blocking the exhaust. If you do like me and get an oversized fan for exhaust, passive intake, you won't have heat issues as long as the room temp isnt too high.

Well I think I've officially decided to scrap the tent in the closet idea. I'm still going with a tent, but using the entire guest bedroom. I will just lock the door to the room from here on out.

The area in the room is 10x10. I am really interested in this one:

http://www.greners.com/i/grow-tents/secret-jardin/secret-jardin-dark-room-pro-dr150-ii.html

It's 5x5. I'm considering 2 cooled 600watt hps's ... personally I'd like LED to keep heat down, but not sure I can afford it at the moment.

Does anyone have experience with a space of this size?

Thanks!!

Yeah man ditch the closet, use a decent sized tent and use the guest room.

Yeah I did, I'm getting a 5x5 tent. How should I ventilate it? I'm going with an aircooled 1000w.

a 6" centrifugal should be enough if your ambient temp is ok.

pull through the filter and push through the hood. Or push through the filter at the end and put the fan anywhere.

There's a good chance you will need to exchange some air to&from that room or else the temp will just build up too high.

i know SHIT about ventilation, I create straight up torture chambers that just get them by. I would say get an inline fan...not sure what cfm, check that out...and have like ventilation holes that are passive, live a flap or two open, that are low, and mount the inline fan high in the tent, it will suck out the old air and heat, and will suck in air passively through the open flaps. You want NEGATIVE pressure. And also have an oscillating fan inside the tent to keep on the plants. Could also do up a cool tube thing, but from what I hear you lose lumens/energy/penetration idk
