Expectations:
I wont be hiding my mistakes. First run pains will hurt yield but still expect QP. Yoke Scrog is going to make scrogging so much easier than scrogging with stakes. Goal is quality frost and taste. Yield is secondary goal. Past runs in similar sized cabinet with 150 hps achieved ~1.0 gpw with same strains.

Setup:
new cabinet- 22"x22"x28" (all sides removable)
new ballast/light -Advanced magnetic 250 watt/GE 250 HPS bulb

Genetics:
Skunk#1 from G13
DieselXKush from rezdog. unsure what name.

Nutes/medium/formula:
1 gallon SWCs with hydroton for SK and a DxK
first attempt at Hempy with a DxK
GH nutes -Lucas to H3ad formula
with pinch of espom salt and abit of Kool Bloom Powder

Ventilation Design:
external intake cooltube is driven by 110 cfm pc fan
two scrubbers feed by a 70 cfm and a 110 cfm fan
an active intake driven by 70 cfm
and a inside mixer is tiny 80mm pc fan (unkn cfm)

Yoke scrog:
Mounted scrog screen horizontally middle of vertical cooltube. I was tired of staking and trying to maintain perfect distance to HID.

Current status:
Ventilation/temp control has been a major issue.
Finally, achieved +7F over ambient (temp at intake).
Originally temps were +15F(temp on top of cabinet). More improvement is available. Just need to increase the intake holes/cfms. (dont know how of an increase is necessary)

Skunk cut was taking from super late flowering plant
Suspect, I may have ruined the Skunk's genetics.
Skunk is way behind where i want it. It’s 30% of planned size.
SWC DieselxKush is growing up a storm!
Hempy was a little behind cause i forgot to water it. Now its way behind the SWC.
Area around the cooltube is fillin in nicely!

Vegged under 6.5 k CFLs for a few weeks.
attempted to veg under HPS.. 2.1k
girls were impatient and started to flower when HPS was installed.
Interesting to note: Didn't have to FIM like past runs. Successful killed a bacteria issue with a single application of H2O2. 12.5% 1ml per 3 liters.

Mega - thanks

Hush- thanks First run, I want max temp control. Depending on current results, running bare bulb may be a good idea.

Cabinet:
Visitors over the weekend.
put cabinet in super stealth mode for 3 days
(fans cut 50% HPS swapped out for a few CFLs)

Monday night HPS was swapped back in.

DxK in swc(left side) has already topped out the cabinet
-likely pinch and lay the tops over sideways
no doubt, i will get light on the tops.

Skunk (right front)is slowly stretching. still tiny

Hempy (right back corner) is fill out nicely
but growth is way behind the SWC
might be the small container.
edit:...might be time to swap to swc..

Have plans to raise the bulb higher.
waiting till stretch is over.

getting crowded, Hempy switched to SWC

getting crowded, Hempy switched to SWC

last night,

Transplanted the hempy into a SWC bucket.
Hempy method works but, doesn't grow as fast as SWC.
Other plants were drinking alot more. Why risk a bad yield.
Point has been proved, so let get growing!

Plants were hitting the exhaust fans.
Put screens on the exhaust fans.

Finally drilled another intake hole

between all plants
-drinking 2 L of Hydro a day.
-soon to switch to lower EC/ppm % (H3ad)

Temps have been low.

DxK SWC is running out of space. Dont think yield will be a problem with this one.. Bent the big DxK tops down. (pipe cleaners)

Skunk SWC is small. unlikely to get much bigger.

DxK (was hempy) is nice short size. evenly spread out. just about perfect for space.

Raised the bulb/cool tube 3"-4" higher. Still, can rise the cooltube to the top of cabinet.

Week 4-5

Week 4-5

Outside influences causing issues. (chaos exists, prepare)
Stealth for a night.
Keep getting visitors during the day.

Week 4
Intake temps too cold. Killed all lower fan leafs on the DxK.
COLD PRUNE! -fixed by closing window in room. but now grow smell exists. not MJ. (think its plant humidity driven.)

Rez change with DxK when issues hit.

Week 5

Temps are a little high 78-82. Nutes % good. targeting PH 5.5-5.8, EC lower than 1.5.

When you cant see the bulb through first layer of plants, potential for high yield is very real.

Dxk with no lower fan leafs seems to slowed its growth.
Skunk and other DxK are doing great.
Skunk is due for its first rez change.
Bacteria issues still exists. Totally my (repeated) error. should be fixed soon. (no clear containers for storing hydro)
Still burning a few leafs close to CT. As long as the cabinet isn't moved, plants find the ideal distance to light and don't burn.

Soon it will be time to dose with UVB. no space. this should be interesting..

Seeing all the beautiful buds start to develop outside the direct contact with the HID was too much.

Raised the cool tube to max height.

First time in my growing career, Girls Can't out grow this light !
Girls REEKED after light was moved.

After the pic was taken, raise the skunk (front right shorty) 3" to catch all the light she can.

Great advantage of my scrog, pull the all edges of screen out.
Pulls all the plants back from the cool tube! Makes removing Cool tube MUCH easier. Going to make UVB dose MUCH easier!
Finally, I will be able to coat the inside of the doughnut with UVB!

Plans/designs are working out perfectly!

Rez change for the Skunk (1st)

Lookin' good, thinkin!

Could you briefly explain the benefit of a yoke scrog vs. doing the vertical scrog w/ stakes? I'm in the process of my first grow in a few years, my first grow using HPS, and my first time growing vertically (all at the same time, so I'm learning a lot as I go...err... grow...) and I went with the vertical scrog, is the yoke scrog more just a way to line up all the tops around the bulb while the lower part of the plant is kinda left to do it's own thing?

We're growing in similar sized spaces with similar wattage, I'm definitely hanging out to watch this one! :smoker:

Brief comparision of Yoke scrog, Stake scrog, Vert scrog

Brief comparision of Yoke scrog, Stake scrog, Vert scrog

Yoke scrog- horizontal screen a center hole for a vertically mounted bulb

Optional but really maximizes space, make the bulb's height adjustable.

Vert Scrog with Stakes.

  • Stakes require lots of mounting holes. For solid mounts, requires work. Over time, stakes can become loose and fall over. When the branches get heavy, stakes need to be adjusted.
  • You have to use ties with stakes. Requires checking/moving the ties throughout the entire grow.
  • independent control of each branch.

Vertical Screen scrog

  • screen mounted multiple locations on vertical frame
  • control distance/spread by tying branches back to screen-needs maintenance
  • works well with tall plants

Yoke scrog-

  • horizontal screen mounted multiple locations on side of frame/cabinet
  • grid pattern around the bulb (controls left/right,front/back movment)- if you shake the entire setup, each branch stays same distance away from each other. (try that with stakes!) Once you know exactly perfect distance to light, consistent spacing over many grows becomes easy.
  • only time you absolutely must adjust the plant is when plant initially hits the screen. Afterwards, scrog maintenance is optional.
  • if you need to tie, very easy to tie back to screen.
  • If you want to grow tall plants, you might need 2 layers of screens.
IMHO Yoke scrog is easier, less maintenance, does a great job controlling the plants.

Day 40 or something... fss not done yet.

Day 40 or something... fss not done yet.

In the Pic, light/shades shows the empty spots. Goal is to completely cover the cool tube.

DxK (left) - Lost most of its fan leaves. I may have topped off with too much water. Rez change. She is now behind the ex-hempy.

Skunk(front right)- Runt ! Should not have cloned from the plant that went through UVB. Shes never looked normal.

DxK-(back right) - First rez change. Decent size buds so far. happy

Everything is nice and frosty. Just applied the UVB treatment. 15 minutes. A T8 UVB 5.0 dropped into middle of the doughnut.

She's frostie!
All my pictures don't capture the full activity.
This one of the few outside buds, all other buds face the cooltube.

Running smooth.. bumper crop?

Added some epsom salt to hydro. Plants reacted. Now cabinet smells like bubble gum. Also increased amount of kool bloom powder.

Setup a Siphon remote rez for thanksgiving.. hope it works!

Also Pondering changing the name of the Scrog..
Yoke isnt a familiar term..

What do you think of "Doughnut Ring(s)" ?

Hundred- Thanks for stopping by. Don't be a stranger. Pictures are just starting to get interesting!

On the outside, everything looks great!
Buds are bulking up. Frost looks great.

Inside is burned. no idea how bad.
wait till harvest to find out.

stoner mistake..
When I dosed for UVB, I may have mistakenly used a regular 3000k instead of the UVB bulb.

YO sLai - micros! thanks for lurking

might be a little early - week 8
i like racy buds. past always ran too late. want to try a little early.
Tris are nice and milky with just a few turning amber.

high humidity is a huge problem. very concerned.
not much i can do. researched and dehumidifier, A/C are the only good ways to lower RH.

any ideas?

Yields?
Its a huge mystery.
As you can see from the pictures, I cant see much in my cabinet.
And there are some burned areas.. cant even guess

First picture shows the consistency of wall of bud that surrounds the cool tube. Packed with small/mid sized buds. No big monsters..
might be 2 layers of buds.. 150w had only 1 layer

Spec ed and lurkers! = Enjoy! Doing this to share with y'all!

first run new cabinet, new wattage
results not so bad.. but plenty of room for improvement.

Original DWC dieselxkush on left is very decent. The ex-hempy is significantly smaller the DWC(back right). AND the runt(front right) is even smaller than the ex-hempy. Happy to discover, lost normal amount to cooltube burns (5-10%).
