How is rooting with cuttings not cut at the nodes?

I've got quite a few plants in my tent and unfortunately because it has been so overcrowded they've become extremely leggy. So what I plan to do is to take cuttings from all plants, however because the brances are so leggy, if I were to take cuttings in the normal way with the cut being made at or just under the nodde, the cutting would be rediculously tall and leggy it wouldn't be worth it since it would have to be hunched over. So I was wondering if it would be worth taking the cuttings further up along the stem where there are no nodes close to where the cut is made? I was hoping this would work as long as I were to use Clonex rooting hormone. I know the success rate wouldn't be as high as if I were to do it in the usual way so I was thining of taking two cuttings for each plant to increase the odds of at least one striking. Do you guys think this would work?

If it does go to plan I shall turn the cuttings into bonsai mums and then flower all the females in the tent with a 1kW and hopefully they'll grow nice a squat like they should when exposed to decent light levels.

i usually try to keep my clones pretty small, ive seen people do fine with big ones but like them to be a growth tip, 2 or 3 leaves, and a small amount of stem, another thing is that the closer to the tip you cut, the less woody the stem will be, meaning better chances of success. if you go too small however be aware it may take a little time for the clone to kick into fast growth. making the cut with a node nearby is said to increase success, but is not required, once you get the hang of cloning really well you may find that you have equal results with either method.
