... Tried snap traps in the past but have seen them merely maim too often.

It's all in the angle against the spine. Always place the trap against the wall, positioned so that it closes toward the wall. Especially at night, mice tend to travel perimeters. You're more likely to see litter in corners. If litter is throughout, you've got a brave and or comfortable mouse.

Also You need to get them under control way before spring. Mice attract snakes as well. :tiphat:

Mouse in the house

Peppermint oil on cotton balls....put them in the electric outlets..it wont be long and they'll be gone...
Good luck

Sounds like that would start an electrical fire which would prob result in burning down your house, all for mice.

One is not jamming the outlet full...just a ball of cotton...if the wiring is correct, no problems should arise...I picked up the idea from Mother Earth News, where someone else had great success with the idea...

Get a couple cats, fix them and keep them inside.

Killing mice is like their favorite thing in the world.

Two and they keep eachother company, and mouse has no escape.

My cats are total inside wimps and even they like to catch field mice, birds, grass snakes when I let them out in spring.

OR, kill the infestation inside and go to a shelter to find a big badass tomcat stray. Don't fix him, just make him an outside cat, all he needs is some shelter and a bale of hay, water, food. That way you won't have to worry about mice populations getting close to your house, you will have death walking your perimeter. He won't be the most affectionate but remember you want a trained coldblooded killer not a lap cat :)

this was going to be my advise until i saw that neat little diy trap from stoner

btw if the thought of uncovered anti-freeze sitting around bothers you then just put 2 inches of vegetable oil in the bottom of the 5 gallon bucket, it will also prevent any odors and of course is nontoxic. my bucket trap is set where nothing but mice have access to it.

You have to kill them. Use mouse traps with peanut butter.

I had a rat climb up the wall and jump through my open window and land on my bed one night; it scared the shit out of me. I removed their entrance point and removed them with huge rat traps! You would hear them snap in the middle of the night; that was a nice sound!

Rat terrier would be my choice. Best squirreler/ratter/mouser I've EVER had was a dog dumped on us. She looked like a Lab mix, but sometimes looked like a white GSD. However! Get that old dog onto a varmint and it didn't stand a chance. I have no idea how she knew to do like she did, but she did. She would also catch bees alive then eat their butts, never got stung once. She got more ground squirrels than I could ever count, and not ONCE did she break the skin, or draw blood. Not once.

Best. Dog. Ever.

Olde Missy Dawg--you need one. I often wish I could have bred her. She rests in peace now.

Beyond that what do the country folk suggest?

Kill traps with peanut butter. If you have 1 you have more. they follow each others scent and will take over in time.
Live traps sound so nice and humane but you have to dump them somewhere. Take em down the road and dump em in another packs family? They'll kill it and eat it. It's a damn mouse. Kill the thing and get it over with!
