What's new

why names like acid, lsd, opium or green crack for ganja?

a strainfreak like me comes across many new strains and it´s names.
what sucks alot, is the strain names that affiliate with drugs.
weed is weed. growers and smokers both are victims of the prohibition anyway.
the laws give us a hard time, based on wrong informations, lies and stupid thawts.

so wsup with: opium, acid, lsd, green crack ... "herion deathshooter:)"

will names like this be a good promo for what canaculture stands for,
whatchu think of it? or, what will the narrow minded people like the press write about it?

its certainly not helping our cause. how do you put up arguments to legalize with strain names like that. yeah, BAD marketing.

well some people would agree that all drugs should be legalized federally and regulated by the state.

I think it does bring a bad name to cannabis and it is silly to use such a name to describe it. It is what it is. Cannabis appeals to all different kinds of people. Maybe you should pick a strain based on a word that appeals to you more.

The legalization of cannabis should be based on facts. Not the groups that are associated with it or the name it is given. Just like LSD is called acid and it scares people away. the word acid just doesn't strike a nice chord in the mind to most people and they judge it based on that. Yet most people dont look at LSD based on the facts instead of the scary name. Eventually people will know.

Lots of junkies, hippies, teachers, students, scientist, businessmen, etc.. smoke weed.

I personally wouldn't name a strain after another drug. If its good weed, I dont care what it is called. It does look bad as a caregiver and dispensary. As a medical point of view, they should consider other names. It doesn't reallly matter either way.

I agree with this. We need more girl names.

Yup - agreed. Hate names like this and would not order them because of their hard drug implications. It really isn't cool to smoke crack / be associated with people who smoke crack, and calling a cannabis strain LSD or Opium is just stupid.

It won't be long before the local paper stories about this new strain which is half crack half MJ and how it's the new menace that's turning their kids dumb. Do not underestimate the gullibility of the public at large.

I guess it's to give the impression of such high potency that you think you are taking a different drug. It's not the best image, I agree -- but exaggeration and "extreme to the max" type statements seem to go hand in hand with many marketing approaches.

On the female name thing -- you forget Mrs. Babba, the primary name for weed has been female all along -- sweet Mary Jane. ;) Although I take the point, some creative female names for individual strains would certainly be welcome -- the lack of female names is due to the predominance of males in the cultivation/breeding business, no doubt -- we can't see beyond our own, erm....noses.

It's marketing.
To a certain audience.
The grower/smoker who is looking for some psychotic trippy weed would be attracted to something like "LSD" for the very reason HempHut suggested. They'd be lured by high potency or different highs that they think would be reminiscent of another drug.
