For all you outdoor tree growers!

Napa County law enforcement agents came upon something in a drug bust the other day that they don’t usually see — marijuana plants that towered so high they looked like marijuana trees.
The bust Friday on the 8300 block of Butts Canyon Road in the community of Pope Valley turned up 35 of these weed monsters, which were up to 9 feet tall and 5 feet around, said Sgt. Oscar Ortiz of the Napa Special Investigations Bureau.
The gargantuan growths produced so many buds that the branches had to be held in place by structures so they wouldn’t break, Ortiz said.
The plants were discovered along with 100 pounds of dried processed marijuana, three shotguns, four rifles and $9,411 in cash, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Police arrested Gerald Bennett, 56, his wife, Linda Bennett, 55, and their son, 28-year-old Cody Bennett, on suspicion of possessing and growing marijuana for sale, as well as being armed in commission of a felony, said sheriff’s Capt. Tracey Stuart.
Police said they’ve seen a growing number of backyard operations turning out larger-than-usual plants.
“This year, several of places we hit have had these giant plants that are more like trees,” Stuart said.

thats how most people get around the plant count limits.....on paper its only 35 plants sometimes the judge/jury wont find out they were giants..

worried that maybe instead of plant counts they implement square footage restrictions..that would suck!

Yeah, like up here in Shasta where the Planning Commission wants to limit outdoor grows to 200 square feet. That's like 2 plants on 10-foot centers. Maybe we'll be seeing a shift from big container grows to SCROG outdoors.

Bloody sensationalists. A little behind the times and ill informed they are. I suppose years and years after we've been growing "tree" style indoors, they'll finally sensationalize that...."we've never seen this before"

Circus clowns sure do have stable, abundant and well paying jobs these days.

I've thought about how I would run a "square foot" legal grow. Say you could run 100 square feet. Many ways. In a ten by ten plot you would get a backhoe and dig out 20x20, bring in soil and plant whatever, say 5 along each outside ten foot run. Spend all summer training them outward, then build a scrog for each plant. Or a row 100 feet long and one foot wide in a trench five feet wide. I would love to be legal in a square foot grow.

so i take it they DID have scripts? and to local leo its still illegal to have fire arms with a legal grow? obviously they were way over weight on the dried....

just trying to figure out what set this so far apart from the many other grows around... 35 plants isent shit... even at 9 ft tall.... anyways i would like to hear other stories of legality when it comes to fire arms, plant counts, weight etc....

Mere shrubbery!......I had a friend here in Santa Cruz that grew a sativa dominant plant in 1988 that was 18+ feet when he took it with a small chain saw lol, I cannot remember exactly but I think he took about only 4 lbs though. I remember how amazed I was when I saw it.
