Growlab tent gl60 two stage ventilation

Hello,

I have a growlab gl60 with a 400 watt hps. Im looking to use a cooltube and add a second fan to lower my temps.

Unfortunately there are only 3 ventilation ports- one on the top for a fan and two at the bottom for intake.

Does anyone have any suggestions for setting this up? Im tempted to carefully cut two more holes in the tent for the cool tube. Has anyone done this? Id rather not ruin the tent, but my temps are just too high.

I like the size of this tent, just wish it had more ports. Thanks for any help!!

I'm guessing you have the six inch port at the top?

I'd run carbon filter - cool tube - exhaust fan, run the fan outside of the tent to maximize your headroom. Minimize 90 degree turns as much as possible.

I am in the exact same situation currently. 400 hps in a 3 x 3 x 6 tent. I can't keep the temps below 100.

Sorry missed your question before. Oddly enough its a 5 inch port. I have no clue why they chose that size-I dont think I have ever seen 5 inch duct before. I have 6 inch duct squeezed in the port.

Im probably going to add two six inch ports for the cooltube with that flange kit and use a good 4 inch fan in the original 5 inch port.

5 inch is available, albeit its hard to find at the big box stores. I believe I have seen it at home depot near the dryer ducting stuff. Purely out of curiosity, the tent has velcro on the sides right? If so, is there any way you could reverse one of those 4 inch outlets, move it to the top? That way you could just plumb the cool tube to the lower 4 inch as intake and exhaust out the top.

Thanks for the help! Im sorry, Im not sure what you mean about velcro on the sides. Do you mean flip the tent upside down and use it that way? If so, Id lose my roof port, which I will still need. Maybe Im just confused tho? :)

I guess it could just be where I live- but Ive looked all over my area, including the hydro shops, hardware stores- home depot too. None of them had 5 inch flex duct.

Some of the tents have side panels that are attached by velcro, wasn't sure if yours was one of them.

you could always go to home depot and buy one of those silver 6 8 or 12 inch metal duct flanges.Build a fire ,or buy a soldering torch from their as well.Heat the inside edge of the flange till its glowing hot. Then carefully press it against the tent where you want to duct hole.It will melt a perfect circle with no fraying. Then use that flange once it cools or add whatever you want to the hole.......just throwing an idea out their...

Oh ok, Ive never seen those. My tent has sealed up sides.

Thanks snagglepuss! I was thinking something like that too. I have to admit the video seemed like it was easy with just a knife though.

It would be great if this works- additional ports, exactly where Id like them.

Homebox sell a plastic thingy to make a new inlet in existing growtents. It looks like a big grey plumbing connector-you cut your hole, andthis thing screws apart, goes through the hole and screws back together

I have a DR80 with a 400w in there. Was in the same situation as you, high temps that were nigh impossible to control.

I hooked up a cool tube and sorted my heat issues. At most they get up to 30'c when it's hot outside.

Carbon filter > Cooltube > Extractor fan, with the fan being sat on top of the tent on the outside.

I have a good few 90'+ angles in my ducting, but it's a must as with the extra slack in my ducting I have the option to lower/raise my lights with chains.

Hope you get everything sorted out ;).

I would run cooltube, ducting to outside of tent, fan, and exhaust through the carbon filter. Fan and carbon filter are outside of tent. I have been running a DR90 with a 430W son-agro like that for some time with very little temp. problems. Some times it can get in the low 80's during the hot summer months. You may have to run a larger exhaust fan though because you have a longer run of ducting or you can run a booster fan. You also may want to add an intake fan or blower to one of your lower ports.

I'll have to look for this.

The lack of proper ventilation holes on the GL60 & 80 is really sad. The 80 is an amazing tent for 400w, but running duct through it is a bitch.

Here it is: http://www.homebox.net/dhtml/product_family_flange.php

Sweet! That's exactly what I was looking for!!!

thanks rives, but those are the standard metal flanges. thats what I am using now but had hoped to get the homebox kit, made of plastic. it's two sides screw together and make a little better seal. or at least it looks like it.

if you find somewhere that sells the homebox flange in the US can you post it up?

Closest I can find:

The reason you can't find the flange kit in the U.S. is because it comes in only European sizes; i.e. it doesn't fit the ducting sold here in the U.S. that you are most likely using in your grow room.

We have talked with Homebox in the past about making these kits in U.S. sizes but to date this has still not come to fruition. I believe the cost to produce the mold is very high and they probably do not know if they will sell enough units in the U.S. to justify the expense.

Maybe if others who are interested in this flange kit, which can be used with just about any brand of grow tent (GrowLab, Sun Hut, etc.) to produce an instant duct port, chime in on this thread, they will reconsider...

Sorry, I didn't see a written description of them and since they were listed with the homebox brand tent.....I agree, the plastic flange looks far superior to the metal ones.
