Toxic tent, my experience

Hi everyone.
I want to share my experience of a friend that nearly ended up growing because of a growing tent.
Last year for christmas my friend bought a grow tent. He thought it was from Homebox. (Later on we noticed the logo was a bit different from homebox logo. Maybe it's a chinese copy...I'll post pics.)
It was a black outside white inside.
It was great! I always built my rooms by myself, but being able to open a box, and in 20 minutes being able to plug in its great! Sturdy structure and well ventilated. 400w HPS and good genetics.
After a few days he noticed from the top of plants a sort of Fe deficiency. It spreaded more and more to all plants, but later observations explained it was something beginning in the plants near the outside side of growroom going centripete. Something opposite to light intensity of light from lamp. Addin Fe to soil didn't help, only a strong foliar spray of multi micronutrients seemed to slow this, but It got worse and worse. This deficiency destroyed that crop.
He thought it was something with bad absorbtion of nutriensts from soil, changed the soil. Nothing again. same soli as previous crops seemed not to work anymore...
He bought some premixed soil, nothing again.
We remixed soil containers, raising drainage and areation, as well as balancing soil recipe. Soil temperature was risen to 21°.
nothing changed and a third crop was ruined.
We changed and augmented ventilation, areation. Humidity and temps were perfect.
We were disappointed. He thought that the problem was in the building or magnetic field or something.
He moved into antother house. New place, new project. Same Homegrowbox aside with a home built growing space. Everything planned and built. But the problem was there again, but only in the prebuilt growtent!
Side by side two growrooms, exact setup, soil ,vent, lights, temperature and same rooms, floors and ceilings. Only the growbox was the difference.
We trashed that and after few days all sick plants are recovering...
Conclusion: we changed everything in grow setup and the only detail whick made the difference was the prebuilt tent...
It caused a micronutrient Fe deficiency in the uptake that begun from new shoots. It begun from tips of leaves to the center, without followings veins, from green to yellow the to white.
Healthy white roots all the time but small dwarf new leaves.
everthing now is back to normal, but looked originally like a bad vibes to this grower.
hope pics help
Stay away frow chinese white black tents.!
soon I'll post the logo.
Regards
dr Penthotal

jesus christ, this was exactly what was happening to my plants. I HAd them in a room tho and then a tent, both places. Indoor air pollution from diffrent chemicals. I put them on my buddies patio at his house and they were FINE int he soils I thought were all fucked up. So, indoor air pollution is and can be a very fucked up thing my friend. Im so sorry to hear about all your crops going to waste and trying to figure it out. It can make you go batty and question your skills as a grower. You start to feel like your never going to be able to grow again after so many plants die in all different types of soil and adjusting PH and adding nutrients, foliar sprays, fungicide, beneficial bacteria. You really start to loose your damn mind. There was times when I was seriously about to break down and cry I was so upset with not being able to help my dying plants. ID have to say if your room dosent smell "clean" when you walk in, then the air in their isnt the best. Any one have any bad experience with the black tents with reflective mylar like lining inside. I still can't source the indoor air pollution problem in my palce. Dont know what was causing it. I had the walls freshly painted but I dunno how long or if that will hamr the plants. ODsent smell anymore, but I know they can still release VOC's in the air.

It's outgassing. Some brands w/white interiors were coated with what Hydrohut's head guy called "an EPA registered" substance.
He actually wrote an apology letter that was posted on several sites. Chuck that tent and get one w/silver lining instead.:)

i went through it myself. got a hydrohut and it killed all plants in 2 weeks. comp-lained to the company and was sent a replacement. it killed plants too. finally got tired of it and just kept the frame. i replaced it with reflectix from lowes and tek foil from farmtek. have done 4 crops in it with no problems whatsoever

I bought a Sun Hut with the white interior in Feb '08. It has now been over two years now since I have had enough safe healthy medicine and my health is suffering. Until last month I have always stayed away from anything cannabis related on the internet, but I still had an idea that the hut was the problem. I also had three deaths in the family along with my own health and financial problems to distract me from figuring out the cause of my plants death. Last month I finally Googled the words "Sun Hut toxic" and I was led to this great site. Thanks to IC I now have confirmed that the tent was the cause of my problems. I now have a new silver lined Sun Hut and am not having the offgassing problems. I am currently about one week past where my problems would begin with the old hut and now have zero signs of offgassing. Before I bought my first Sun Hut over two years ago I was having excellent results and had never encountered any problems during three years gardening in closets.

i have a white interior tent but i havent had any problems got it off ebay sent them a note asking if i would have any problems they said i wouldnt and they have sold many with no complaints ill hope for the best i dont want to have to pipe bomb them lol just kidding good vibes

Wow those plants are really showing their not happy. My plants would always take a couple of weeks before the leaves would begin to turn yellow and brown. That might have had something to do with my oversized air filtration system(can 75). I believe that large carbon filter made it harder for me to diagnose my problem. Anyways I sure am glad people are posting about these tent problems here. Everyone I talked to locally about my "tent offgassing" theory thought I was absolutely nuts. After all there is no way any company would sell a harmful toxic product anyways, especially here in America right? Imagine how many truly sick patients lost out on their needed medicine do to these toxic tents. Sick patients do not have months or longer to chase plant sicknesses cause by toxic tents. These tents may have even cost some patients their lives.

Here's the Open Letter Hydrohut published a few years ago. While they don't specifically list the chemical that is causing the problems, it's suspected to be hydrogen peroxide.

Open Letter from HydroHut to the public

In the last several months, HydroHut has been made aware of and pursued a problem with some of its Huts causing a peculiar plant yellowing leading to plant whitening in certain, sensitive plants. While the issue did not arise in all plants, or all Huts, the existence of a problem was not conducive to our product's mission.

After several months of extensive testing, false positives and much interaction with the public regarding this matter, we have found an EPA approved compound that isn't stable in our plastic and that causes extreme stress to certain sensitive plants. In the future, this compound will be removed during manufacture.

Our focus has been directed at how to remove this compound from the plastic and to do so in a way that we could retroactively repair any HydroHut already in the field. As of February 2008, HydroHut will be repairing any affected HydroHuts at its facility. The exact process by which we repair the HydroHuts is extensive and proprietary and it will be carried out by a trainedstaff at our locations.

We fully understand that this situation with our product has adversely affected many clients. For this reason, we are standing behind our product and are offering anyone who has been affected a way to have his/her HydroHut repaired free of charge.

Any client, be they end user or store, can arrange to have his HydroHut shipped back to our Los Angeles facility for processing, free of charge. The HydroHut will then be shipped back to the client free of charge.

All inquiries for HydroHut processing should be directed to [email protected] with no exceptions.

Please provide the following details in the email:

1) Size/modelof affected HydroHut

2) Number of affected HydroHuts (only the HydroHut brand will be accepted for processing)

3) Address where the HydroHut can be picked up by UPS call tag (make sure someone is there to meet the UPS driver) Do not use a PO box as UPS will not pick up from a PO box

4) A name to whom/which we can address the package going back to you, the client. (We will make a good faith attempt at getting your product back to you. If nobody is at the address to accept the package three times, the package will be sent back to Los Angeles. Any further attempts to get the package to the client will be paid for by client.)

5) Please remove your HydroHut canvas or skin and box it up. Do not pack up your poles or hardware. Do not remove your frame. Do not attempt to ship us your frame or other items. We will only be call tagging the canvas in a box. You must provide that box and properly seal that box. We will send you a call tag for a specific weight based on the email you send to us with your HydroHut details. Again, we will only be taking back your canvas for processing; no other parts or hardware will be accepted. Leave your frame set up and intact.

6) We will make every effort to process and reship your HydroHut canvas within two weeks. This is not a guarantee but it is our goal. Please note that ground shipments across the USA can take up to 8 days! Even if we process your HydroHut in only one day, there could still be 16 days of ground shipping, 8 days coming to us and 8 days going back. Be patient. Most clients will not have towait two weeks. Every attempt will be made to expedite each HydroHut.

7) If a store has new HydroHut, still in its original box, the canvas can be re-boxed in a separate box, and the canvas will be returned to the store new and folded, ready to put back into the original box. Please keep your original box at your store including all poles, hardware, and instructions. Do not send us the entire unit.

While this entire exercisemay be time consuming, HydroHut is doing all that it can to rectify this problem as quickly as possible. We apologize to everyone for the difficulties incurred with our product, end-users and stores. Without a loyal standing of clients we would be nothing. It is our goal make this situation as right as we can. Thank you to everyone who has stuck with us through this difficult period.

Your plants also have signs of over watering from the brown leave tips. What's ur water like?

Also that is def some kinda rip off tent i have never seen that logo on a box...their normally embroidered tags not what looks like an iron on patch. I've also never seen a box that has that kinda exterior fabric either...It could be air pollution destroying your crop. I'd ditch the box to rule out easy variables. Youda been better off with some 2x4's and mylar friend. Hate seeing shit like this happen but it's part of the circle.

I had a 4' x 8' of one of these years ago and it made me sick as hell, I was sick to my stomach and dizzy with some pretty weird neurological symptoms from it. At the time I could not figure it out but later came to find out I was being exposed to high levels of the off-gassing from the tent as it was occupying a large room with me at the time. I never even got to do a cycle of full growth in the tent as once plants went in they all turned white and died within about 2 weeks. I threw it out and felt 100% better lol

Growlab is the way to go, hands down. Believe that! ;)

sorry to bring this back up, but I am having problems I have NEVER seen before in 6 years growing. Lets just assume I am an expert grower and that I am not doing anything adverse to my plants, ie: perfect watering, feeding, atmosphere.

I put healthy green plants into FoxFarm Happy frog, and placed them into my BRAND NEW ( August 2011) SUN Hut XXL 4x8. The edges of the leaves begin to drastically yellow on all strains, there are 5 different strains all showing the same problem.

?WTF

anyone else STILL having these tent issues? They must have made thousands of these bogus tent liners, I bet they are still in circulation.

help!

Hallo there!
No prob!
Is the hut the ONLY thing you changed? ANY other issue?
Is your tent black/white or black/silver? White plastic showed more problems.
I notice some yellow on the intermediate leaves, not exactly on the newest shoots.
Have you tried to correct the problem? How?
How long have you had this issue?
It looks a bit like Mg def... Some MgSO4 as foliar feed?
give us more datail
my 2 cents
Dr. P
PS Fuck these cheap toxic fake tents...:)
