my question is what were the feathers for???? What purpose did they serve???????

My understanding (albeit most likely wrong) was that birds evolved from dinosaurs...but...maybe some birds evolved into dinosaurs?????? Meaning there were birds before dinosaurs???? Strange stuff.

But if a velicoraptor has feathers...I would think that they either developed feathers for some reason...or they were descended from birds, and the feathers are just a throwback...like the canine teeth in humans...they've recessed under the gums, but they're still huge...and we used them to tear meat or fight each other.

So I guess I want to know what came first...the dinosaur or the feather

The dinosaurs evolved before feathers, but there were feathered dinosaurs around in the later periods.

What do feathers do? They protect from temperature variations, they allow you to appear bigger, they can help attract mates, and eventually they can help you glide/fly..

rusty, speculating always opens the door for more grants.

they don't know a lot, other than the bones they have found, they know these are bones and shit, but that's it.

maybe the dinosaurs were also the first 'bones, thugs and harmony', how else would u explain the bones, the bad-ass attitude, and the music playing?

solved!

don't thank me or applaud me, I'm just doing a humble service for the education of mankind.

A lot about what something eats can be inferred from tooth shape. Also, fossilized remains have been found with broken/shed teeth of the dino's that ate them. Tooth marks in bones have been matched to skulls. We know T-Rex hunted live prey from tooth marks in bone that have healed. We also know what dino's ate based on coprolite (fossilized crap) evidence.

I watch a lot of Discovery/History/Science channel.
Fuckin' ACE! You took my answer, so... I'm quoting you for truth.

Science--we haz eet. Coprolites? Not so much.

I watched a program on NatGeo yesterday (and fell asleep during it) about this one scientist finding fossilized evidence of squid ink in a fossil squid, and he was then able to translate that knowledge into learning how the feathered dinosaurs were colored. They had to build up a baseline data set, using modern bird feathers scanned through an electron scanning microscope which allows them to see the actual structure of the colorant molecules, and then used the same technology to view fossils. What did they find? The same colorant molecule structures!

Fucking awesome, isn't it? We are such clever monkeys.

you know the dinosaurs built rockets and colonized mars right? thats why nasa keep sending probes there, they musta predicted the meteor and upped sticks to mars..apparantly thats the reason the planet looks red, because dinosaurs favourite colour is red...:)

yes. dinosaurs invented music; and many scientists are now speculating that velociraptor youth regularly attended raves.

its all in the bones ;)

This was confirmed in the documentary "The Great Drugosaur Expedition."
