Hello there.

So just another pollinator thread

As many of you properly already know, pollinators/scuffboxes are not dirt cheap, more in the line of expensive as with many other cannabis related products. As I see it, a pollinator is basically just a drum in a box, no need to pay several hundred of dollars for such a device, therefore this thread, on going pr oject, hence trial and error in my experience takes some time.

So far I am "only" missing a good screen/net for the drum, and a good way of attaching this to the drum, so as mentioned on g oing project, often the issue is also the 12volt motor for the rotation of the drum, here I have found my good old drill machine, to be sufficient, much more to follow, now some pictures.

Hi, so far no, hence I am cheap so to speak and the prices so far, have been to much, yes you can buy one, meaning a complete pollinator, but I simply refuse to pay several hundreds of dollars for basically a plastic continaer, a drum and some net, more to follow guys.

I'm sure you hav thought of this, but just in case...you could get a silkscreen and cut it out of the frame if necessary. Good luck.

I think you can buy silkscreen by the meter from hobbyshops. The screen is very fine so I don´t no about the end product.

I bought some "Tüll" in German, in IKEA, very fine and dirt cheap mesh, several feet across, but it didnt really do what it was to do. The major issue with this DIY pollinator, is how to close the net ends around the drum, hence so far I havent found a proper way, and I dont have a sowing machine, but as mentioned, an on going project, more to follow...

Consider running one of the stays through a stick of wood or plastic that you can staple and glue a splice to. Big radiator clamps will hold the ends.

try this - fix a 0.50" x 0.25" (12.5 mm x 7 mm..or similar size) length of wood between the edges of the two cylinder discs with screws, flush with the outer circumference, wide side facing out...cut the mesh to suit, then super glue one end of the mesh to this length of wood, when dry, staple it, stretch and staple the mesh around the two wooden discs (you might need four hands to do this right, (edit : then glue it with superglue, the glue will soak through the mesh onto the wood adhering and sealing it...you can also use motor gasket silicon on the circular edges) then temporarily tack and glue the other end of the mesh to the wood....if you are using stainless steel mesh instead of synthetic mesh, use staples only, but it's better to use heavy duty staples (and a HD stapler, not some office stapler)

Bubbleman's Tumble Now tumbler uses something similar, but they also staple a (edit : an adhesive) strap over the mesh end joins (and along the disc edges as well)..which adds strength and looks better

Here is a picture of one someone posted using radiator camps on the ends.

Looking through my pictures, I saw another one where they just glued and stapled the ends, before covering them with a wrap of tape.

Yes GrayWolf that could be a solution, hence duct tape doesnt work properly, a thought I have had for some time now, is to sow the net end somehow, have seen these handheld sowing machines, they should be able to do the job. Concerning the fine meshed net, I still havent found a fav, and sadly every time a product has relations to our common lady Maryjane, is costs alot of money, compared to stuff for tomatoes eg, the quest continues.
