Wetland effect?

I've got a question for you pros... Say I put up a 5x5 tent with a 1kw'er and dropped 20 plants in a plastic kiddie pool to act as a tray. Now I don't have the cash to buy a blumat setup but I've heard of some guerrila growers putting plants in wetlands so they would have a constant source of water. Now say I filled the kiddie pool up so the first couple inches of the pots were submerged and I put an airstone in there. Would this work for keeping the plants watered? If so how long could they stay like this (the topmost soil will obviously dry out). If it matters, I'm running FFOF with all organic amendments (plus perlite).

Thanks!

I'm sure every few days you could flood the pool. Just don't leave it too damp. 20 plants in say 1gal pots = 20gal of water.

problem is im trying to go for a ghetto blumat -- where i can leave for up to 2wks~

say the bottom of the pots are 1-2in submerged from the beginning. if i kept the water level somewhat constant, before the clones roots have reached the water line, wouldnt the plant 'learn' not to grow deeper as it is too saturated and only do so when its thirsty?

seems like it would work but im by no means an expert, feel free to chime in :D
