Good find superman

I wish my local stores would carry coco, they stopped stocking (or "getting sent" is what they told me) those burpee bricks, and now I have to mail order my bricks.

I even emailed burpee about it and got no response from them.

Keep us updated on how those coco chunks work out.

ya its a mix of chunk and fibers. i dont know what was used to make it brown tho.i browse the garden section of every store i enter even if i dont need anything. i was hoping someone had used it already. the same block at hydro store is like 13$

I bought a some just like it (coco fiber/chunk mulch). There is alot of larger chunks. I took mine and mixed it with fine coco fibers. It seems to stay moist a little longer than pure fiber. I just put some seedlings in the mix for the Beer Cup Challenge. I'd grab a couple and ammend my coco fiber with it. I haven't used the chunky coco long enough to see if there are long term effects.

i agree . theres a few bigass chunks but the rest is ok. i hydrated a small amount and stuck a cutting from my tomato plant in it.

I noticed that the pic of the bag that it says it is dyed? Did you find it to bleed out when you hydrated it or did it have a steady ph?

The burpee bricks I tried that were mentioned had a very high salt content and needed a ton of rinsing just a fyi :canabis:

I've used that stuff instead on the hydrodon in the bottom of some hempy buckets and the worked well

Definitely watch out for the salt content which will cause all sorts of lockout issues. Your best bet would be to leave the coir soaking in a bucket or do multiple soaks and get all the crap out. It definitely sounds cheaper, and therefore you are taking a chance, but for that price with some amendments and perlite you're definitely looking at a cheap(er) substrate.

My local hydroshop has two kinds of coir in brick form. One is $16 and the other is $7. I was curious the difference and the salesclerk told me that the more expensive brick had longer fibers in it. They also said something about going thru a "conditioning" process to aid in PH'ing and salt removal.

The thing I see of concern in the $4HD bag is the part about "stops weed growth".

I've used mixed bricks before and they worked fine. IIRC I ended up mixing it with some finer coir I already had on hand.

And yes, rinse the heck out of it.

The thing I see of concern in the $4HD bag is the part about "stops weed growth".

Not a concern. It's being sold as mulch. Mulch kills weeds.

This is what the bag says... mulch!
I don't think that the company or distributor intends for root growth in this product. Lol.
Yeahhh, maybe you can 'mulch' the top layer of your fine coco coir with this stuff to keep evaporation down... but that's about it.

Canna Coco Coir - 50L, $20 bucks all day.
Canna Cogr slabs - even cheaper.

C'mon guys...

I have been using a similar product found at home depot called Beats Peat. Its also a coco coir brick product made by Plantbest. So far so good. I can tell you that for a bricked coco product that it needs very minimal flushing if any at all. Super low salt content in this stuff.
