It was suggested to me that my keeper clones looked "kinda f****d". Yes, they do look kinda f****d but I'm fully committed to bringing a group of these clones to completion. One died, but 9 of the 10 are taking up water at 14 days from cutting and I think in about a week they'll be fine looking specimens that most growers would be happy to have in their garden. Keep in mind these girls will get a minimum of 50 days veg so have some patience, I do. Anyway, for better or worse here they are at 14 days.....

Once, Twice, Three Times a Lady.............

Once, Twice, Three Times a Lady.............

Here's the keeper mother at day F18. And yes, she really is a lady compared to those unruly bitches climbing the trellises. She's got a nice symmetrical form, is exhibiting good light response to the vertical configuration and is maintaining a nice compact shape. No staking required yet and maybe none required at all.

Here's the trellised girls at day F32. Some of the primary branches are still not exhibiting alternate phyllotaxy (I think thats the term) so I expect the stretch to continue for a bit longer. They really are unruly growers and require training on almost a daily basis. Still, they're lotsa fun to grow and will hopefully reward me with a bumper crop of sativa(y) goodness. So far, I've been able to keep the bulk of the plants in the sweet spot of the lamp.

And here's the runt at day F32. She's more advanced than the trellised girls but is going to yield very low numbers. She's developing some leaf yellowing on some of the back larger leafs and is just not a vigorous specimen. The 42 inch tomato cage was definitely overkill.

Hi there!
I grown some hawaiian snow last year, outdoor at 43°N. It was a bad idea to plant such a nice long flowering sativa outdoor at my latitude but well. This plant was realy realy stretchy, a superb sativa form!
I bet you bet that she didn't finish at my lattitude. You're all right. She started flowering around the end of september/middle of october (oh my god :)).
Bad yield obviously, around 50grams for a 3meters tall plan, but man the smoke is realy great!

I'll probably do it indoors soon, I've smoked it also at amsterdam 's greenhouse coffee and I loved it again.

The taste is realy weird, not a taste that you will find in any random weed. It's particular, and great.

I wish you a nice grow, I'm sure she could grow big resineous buds indoor :)

Have fun,

Peace! :rasta:

Hi haxi, I live at latitude 53N so nothing finishes here outdoors. Sorry for your luck with the HS at 43N but I'm sure there are lots of strains that'll finish good there for you. I was apprehensive growing any pure sativas indoors, but so far this stain is quite manageable and easily grow-able for the average cultivator.

I'm looking forward to a new taste as I've been smoking the same strain for 3 years now and its time for a change. Good luck on your future grow, it'd be nice to see you tame the wild Hawaiian Snow.

Random Notes

Random Notes

The tip burn is going on everywhere. Its very minor (about 1/8 inch) but bugging the hell out of me. The clones have it, and the keeper has it as do the trellised plants. Actually, the runt has no tip burn, go figure..... but it has its own set of problems. I've cut the feeding back to 10ml/gal Bloom, 2ml/gal CalMag, 2ml/gal Liquid Karma plus a little potassium silicate to boost the ph. I'm drawing a line in the sand there and won't go below that level. If it continues I'll try moving the ph up/down slightly and see if that takes care of it. I'm planning on adding a bloom booster in about a week or so.

For the last couple of weeks I've assumed that the larger of the two trellised plants would be the bigger yielder. Now, I'm not so sure. After close inspection I've noticed internode spacing as long as 8 inches on the larger one and on the smaller one internode spacing no longer than 4 inches. So, even though the one plant is smaller, it may very well have more bud sites than the other. I never counted the bud sites (lol) but it'll be interesting to keep an eye on this and see how it works out. I never thought I'd grow a plant with 8 inch internode spacing.

The keeper is taking up moisture at twice the rate of the trellised plants. I don't know why, it just is. The trellised plants have way more plant mass and a much larger root mass. The runt is taking up even less, I went 2 weeks without watering it at all and the pail was still quite heavy. I gave it a half liter of feeding today just because its been such a long time. I never water till run-off, I just lift the pails to get a feel for the weight and water accordingly. Maybe this is a factor in the tip burn, I don't know but I'm certain the girls don't want watering to refusal.

Hi primobud. :) No, its not the slsd, its just the smallest plant but it's starting to bud up a bit and take up a little more water. Today was feeding day and I've been in stealth mode with mrs smilley's 80+ year old auntie and uncle visiting for the last few days and they finally left for home. Anyway, I got a chance to give the plants a good look over and decided to go straight ph'd water for this feeding. I think a bit of the problem is heat related (too close to the bulb) so I tied everything back and adjusted the plant heights for optimum performance. Everything is running good, the clones are coming along nicely so it's cruise control for a while. I'll do a full update with pics on the weekend.

Its nice to have the old folks stay, but its really nice when they go home and we can get back to our usual routine of toking and drinking after work. :dance013::dance013::dance013:

I fed the girls today. I've got the pbp bloom down to 8ml/gal & 2ml/gal of both the lk & cal/mag. Added a small amount of bloom booster (1 ml/gal) to see how they react. These HS seem to be very nute sensitive (light feeders). The tip burn seems to be under control and I'm using that as my feeding indicator. If this feeding burns anything, I'll just feed em straight ph'd water next feeding. I've switched back to ph up (potassium hydroxide) instead of potassium silicate for a ph booster.

I'm going out to my buddy's acreage on Sunday to see how his clones are taking to their new digs. My buddy has informed me he's not going to scrog his plants but instead use some form of lst. It'll be interesting to see how he makes out with the 5 week stretch.

Here's a pic of the keeper clones at 19 days from cutting. They're all developing new growth, albeit at different rates, I'll repot all 9 in a day or two and eventually select 6 for the next crop. Because of my neglect, they'll all be a little different in size but that's the way it is. I'll hang onto the extra 3 plants for future consideration.

I have a 360 conversion bulb I can put in my 400mh fixture so I'll probably do a sog grow in the veg room with a bunch of keeper clones during the last flowering crop of the season. I pulled 76g from the veg room last year as an experiment with a handful of runt clones so hopefully this year I can double that up or better.

And here's the keeper mother at day F24. If she stretches like the trellised girls she'll stretch for about 10 more days. I'm going to put a couple of stakes in the back of the pot and tie back the front branches to keep them from burning near the bulb. Otherwise she's doing great and hopefully will produce some nice buds.

All looking good and those clones are coming along fine :good:

That keeper you have has the exact same structure of the one I flowered out and she was primo fruity hazey tropical Sativa goodness with an exotic taste and super sticky buds. I think she will be a very nice plant for you :canabis:

Thanks for the updates man I am keeping tabs on this one such a nice growshow! :respect:

 Hi SOTF420, thanks for dropping in. The keeper is a very well behaved young lady. I think pot size has a lot to do with how these girls perform. Restricted root mass seems to keep stretch in check a bit. I've got the vegging clones of the trellised girls in small 4 inch square pots right now and thats slowed them down nicely. I'll be looking for any sign of auto-flowering for breeding purposes but so far at day V36 they're doing just what they should be.

I'll probably start a 6-pack of SLSD's this weekend to search for a couple of males for my closet breeding program. Not much of a selection process but thats the way it is for small hobby growers like myself. Still, it keeps the process interesting and will provide me with some interesting stock for next year's campaign. :chin:

It's day F39 for the 2 trellised girls and the runt. The stretch is over, it ended about day F35 and the girls are starting to bud up. The first pic is of the runt and the rest are of the trellised plants.

Ok, I've been busy this morning. I repotted all of the keeper clones and started on the search for a suitable male to breed with the HS. I planted 2 seeds in each cell of the six-pack and I'll cull the weakest seedling from each cell in the first 2 - 3 days of them popping up. Things are starting to rock & roll.

I was pretty drunk when I shot these 2 pics at my buddy's place so I apologize for the quality. These are clones of the 2 trellised plants and each is under a 400hps. They more than doubled in size in a week.
