How do you process moldy buds?

Or do you guys toss em out? i got a few pounds of buds that contain some mold and id like to try and SAFELY process it to hash or oil if possible.

So what does everyone recommend? ISO/BHO the best option here? Ive heard of people making bubble and skimming the mold when it floats to the top but this seems a little bit more risky of contamination.

Another consideration is im looking to process pounds, not grams or ounces. Thanks

Just this last March I took all the moldy buds, put them in the brush pile, and burned them. I'd have to say I burned somewhere between 12lbs-15lbs.

I'm not trying to get anybody sick, thats why im asking if there is a SAFE way to process them. If the general consensus is to toss them, that's what ill do. I just hate to toss away pounds.

Me, too, I totally feel you. But, you know what? I felt a lot better knowing that I wasn't putting myself, or anyone else who might have managed to get a hold of them, at serious risk. I'm able to rest easy.

I would specifically ask Gray Wolf if BHOing it would make it safe. I know no one else who understands and works the chemistry of the plant like he does.

Imo, the general consensus is to ice-water-sift the moldy buds,
prepare bubble-hash,
dissolve in ethanol, filtrate through 0,2 mcr, evape and collect the resin free of mold.

Ummm, it depends on what kind of mold it is. Some molds put off aflatoxins that are deadly and can't be filtered out of the solution.

If it is Powdery Mildew or Botrytis bud rot, which don't produce toxic aflatoxins, as Jump notes, there are ways to salvage some of it. The mold material and spores can be filtered at 0.2 microns and it will remove the taste and smell. It will also remove any bacteria present.

We use a syringe filter for that purpose, which you can get from a scientific supply or off E-Bay inexpensively.

Jump has identified one way that works. Ours is similar but different.

We cut away and discard any portions that are seriously bud rotted. The rest we extract using BHO, redissolve in ethanol, freeze over night, filter through a coffee filter, and then filter through the 0.2 filter.

Fuckin gross man.

I'd hate to see how you deal with moldy bread or rancid meat.

We all get to see how YOU deal with a forum. You come to threads and post before reading. The thread creator said that he would throw away the bud if there was no way to salvage, or if enough people said to.

Whats grosser, throwing away material that could have had clean THC juice extracted from it, or getting some clean hash out of some otherwise useless buds.

There you go sucka.

Only a joke, not coming down on anyone.

It's just that, when I have something moldy or rotten in front of me, my instinct is to get it the hell away, not figure out some way to salvage and consume it.

If OP has so much mold that the affected areas can't reasonably be cut out and discarded then it is compost IMO.

Are you aware that they make the finest of wines from grapes infected with Botrytis. Called noble rot.

I've heard, and I gotta say I do enjoy dry aged beef, moldy cheeses, etc.

These are all products from controlled environments with specific molds, and a thorough history of not making people sick.

I've only smoked moldy buds once, when I was younger, and it made me feel like death.

I threw mine away but it was one plant, not pounds,Lifesaver. It was the only plant that had it.Didn't want to chance it even though it was only the main cola infected.

I've smoked more than my share of moldy bud over the years, when that was all I could get. I find it revolting too and won't smoke anything that tastes moldy these days.

The saving grace after processing, is that there isn't any of that smell or taste left.

Yeah but how was it first discovered? If everyone just threw it away and never thought twice we could be missing out on some great stuff. I myself LOVE hash, and to throw any away that might be salvageable is crazzzzy ^_^

Everything always boils down to opinion, I just throw my 2 cents in when I think I can add some insight.
