Tough going wire-to-wire w/o running out of smoke with a 150. A 250 would be more my speed and a 400 would allow me to build a surplus, lol.
:muahaha:Thats why you need the skills to run 150!

I think when you harvest and the amount of amber is strictly a personal preferance.

Back to amber note...
Just smoked a splif of my Jamaican skunk who almost reached 90 day mark... ah (third time in a row tried to write "what" but typed "ah")... what can i say... amber ads some nice spice to sativaish high... theres a chance that i might quit with indicas... but not soon as i have 12 lil'seedlings of kushistan origins slowly crawling out of their veghut into a hps-oven...

Take care everybody!!

New Subject..... For many years, I lived for tons of amber on my Sativas. Yes it was a total couch-lock smoke, but it also provided the pain relief I needed. Now-a-days, I go for epidural injections which make my sciatic pain much more managable. As a result, I've been harvesting much sooner to obtain more of a "heady" effect. I think when you harvest and the amount of amber is strictly a personal preferance.
:rasta:

Oh for sure dude - the sativa/heady high peeps like to pick before the trichomes turn amber...me on the other hand, well I mostly grow indica's or indica-dominant hybrids...and I let those suckers turn until it's almost ready to die on it's own. I did that outdoors a few years ago...let them go until mid-November, and I'm in the northeast. Shit was CRIPPLING. Just what I look for. And on the plus side when you let them go long outdoors in cold weather - they turn purple! :)

stupid question: I have a Sun System 150hps...it's like the total unit thing with the balast and reflector and vent built into the unit. Now, I need to hang it, but I don't have money for chain. My question is...can I use rope???? Where the holes are for chain/hanging is above the light, on the far corners, and I really don't think it gets hot enough to burn rope hanging it up. I know this is a bad idea but I'm out of options and money. I might try it and watch it...maybe for an hour or so and feel the rope...and if it's not hot or anything I guess I'll use that. I might look around and see what else I could use...granny has tons of shit all over the place.
Also - reflective material. I'm not going to paint my cab, because it's an expensive antique...that I punched holes in the back for the fan/air circ. I found a dogfood bag..huge one...and it seems to have this silvery plastic inside...is that mylar? How can I tell what it is...doesn't say on the bag. I'm thinking it is mylar though.

You can use anything that will fit through the holes and strong enough that you know it wont break.

I have used mini bungi cords and chains in the past. Yarn or twine would work fine, I would just double it up for peace of mind. Speaker wire would work. Old shoelaces would work too. Pretty much anything you can get your hands on that you feel would hold it securely.

I'd use coat hanger wire on each end of the hood. Bend the wire into a V shape and hook the ends. Slip the hooks into the hood and tie the string at the vortex.

okay...sounds like I have some options. The hard part about this is splitting the area in two..it's like 7' tall and 4' wide....I have to somehow cut the area in half about half way up...and then split that area into two. What I might do is take a board and nail it in there to create the first half...then use black plastic I have from the hardware store...it's really thick...I could double it up so it's light proof. Then I'll have a space for veg and a space for flowering. I think I am going to paint the inside...idk. I'll keep you guys posted as to my progress. Thanks for the help disco and bueno!

okay I took measurements - I'm going to need two pieces of wood - 36" x 20, times two. I'm hoping I can get something at home depot and like cut it THERE...it doesn't even have to be good wood. I'm hoping I can get this for under $20. Then I'll paint white. So I guess I'm going to wait on that for now.

alright check this out...the cab is split vertically...but where it touches the door - I can NOT get it to seal properly...I've been trying to use black plastic, but it just isn't cutting it. This is an absolute nightmare. I need duct tape too.

sweet. Thanks disco. I'll go see what's down in the dungeon. Found tons of crap earlier. Be back when I finish it.
edit: shi-to - the compartments aren't split equally...the flower side is bigger...I see what you mean though. Let me Macgyver this, bbl

You could toenail a 1 x 4 vertically, right where the doors come together. It would get in your way but it would block light. I've got the same concept but it's a full divider between veg and flower. If you have an asymmetrical cab, is it big enough to make the small side veg and the big side flower? You could divide the cab and seal the door crack at the same time.

I'm ready to cry, I've been at it for 6 hours. I've tried everything, there is just no way to get the veg side light tight. I've have tried tape, drywall, carpet, black thick plastic. The problem is the god damn door is warped, there is a 1" gap between the divider and door. The only solution is using duct tape to secure a piece of drywall over the veg front....
This is just rediculous. I don't know what to do. I need a perpetual but this just isn't happening. Now I'm out of duct tape.

Okay i think I understand.....I need to nail or screw a piece of wood to the door, so that when it closes it kind of overlaps, and keeps the light from getting over to the flower side. I'll post a pic of my progress. Once I get some more duct tape I can seal up all the dry wall. I do need a yard stick....but like 4" wide. I'm going to clean up and step away for the night before I lose my mind. I feel like Clark Griswold stuck in the rotary in England....look kids, big Ben, parliament.

Here it is, veg side lights on. Yeah I need to nail a piece of wood to the door so when it closes it overlaps. Sucks. I'll see what I can find in the morning

I can't. Right now I'm wishing I had the money for a tent. Once I get more duct tape everything will be sealed up except for the front of the veg side. Hopefully ill find some wood around and see if that overlap thing works. Have to finish painting too. And bust some bigger holes in the back. I feel like I'm in way over my head. We'll see what happens. I thought the size of this thing was a god send, but with its bizarro world door its turning into a nightmare. Would like to get plywood, yeah. But can't do it at the moment. Not for a while. There's tons of materials around here, but can't find a saw. Was scoring then breaking the drywall. I really thought the carpet idea would work, but light was still getting past the little tiny gaps. All I want is a 36" piece of wood that's like 4" wide. I'll find it in the morning. I forgot how much work growing is. Especially if you're broke and not an engineering or handy guy.

well I gave up, tore it all down. Put them back under cfl vegging. I guess I'll just veg them until they're a few feet taller and then throw em under 12/12 with the hps. Definitely a wall of shame entry. I need to find a cabinet on Craigslist or something...then use weather insulation stuff around all the doors and stuff. I really need a perpetual though, because I smoke about an z a month, and from like 3 plants under a 150 I'd get maybe 2-3 tops....and vegging takes like 3 months...then another 2 months to flower...so 2-3 z's won't last me 5 months. Really need a perpetual. Back to the drawing board.
