With all the discussion regarding Caterpillers I'm wondering what those who are having cat problems are getting for brix readings. The reason I ask is that I had a huge cabbage looper problem for the first few seasons at my current location, Then (from what I learned on this very thread) I started to pay attention to raising my Brix #s and I have had very few cats over the last two years. I lucked out and bought too much brix mix a few years back, but I know there are other ways of and products out there to help raise brix levels.
I realize its too late in the season to think about increasing your brix now, but for those looking toward next season already, high brix pretty much solved my cat troubles.

Interesting-That is a new one, and is going onto my list of cat prevention for next year. What do you use to raise your brix levels, as brix mix is no longer available..?

Sideways: to my knowledge, Gypsy Moth caterpillars are a lot bigger than the ones I have seen (green last year and reddish brown this year). I grew up in the Northeast and as a kid we were often overrun with Gypsy Moths... these seem noth9ing like them.

I am still using the brix mix I bought last year. I guess I will be looking for a substitute in another year or so.

The recipe for brix mix is in this thread. Trin posted it in, I'd say march-april, both the liq and the powder blends.

Used Brix Mix heavily until flower set. We have not found any more caterpillars or damaged bud.

The rain comes on the same day as the second reading of the Lake County Cultivation ordinance. In the case of the dispensary ordinance, I am pretty sure that I read (though i cannot find the citation- i will continue to look for it) 30 days were given from passage to onset of the new regs put forth by the ordinance. I assume this was to let folks who own businesses comply gracefully.

As far as I can tell no 30 day grace period will exist with the cultivation ordinance. So, come the rain we'll also be out of compliance with new regs and subject to compliance checks from the Sheriff.

October is just looking better and better.

There is a provision for a minor use permit... there has to be some time to apply and be approved or denied.

We use a 1 Acre bug zapper in the garden. Turns on automatically at night, does wonders for preventing Cats. You can tell it works when you see the giant pile of burnt moths build up. Only drawback is it makes me nervous that a moth might ignite and start a fire.

Haven't posted in here yet this season, but doubled the operation we did last year and have used Spinosad twice so far this year, the last time being a week ago.. It's also the only insecticide we've used at all. We've seen a total of 2 cats, cabbage loopers almost definitely, over 3 plots, 20 girls, all in the 1-3 lb range.. It's the only insecticide we used last year as well and I think we saw maybe 3 cats last year, too. So either that stuff works like a champ or there just aren't cat problems where we are.. Been loving everyone's posts again this year, thanks so much.

Wow very nice gardens to be seen and some killer strains! sounds like this year is going to be pretty good for most. Been really busy lately otherwise I would have posted sooner. I have to agree BotanicalBill the Spinosad is better than the BT in my experience. As long as u blast real heavy & complete coverage all around and under the leaves with an atomizer, chances r u wont get hit bad at all. Releasing trichogrammas after the spinosad may help as well. The Spinosad has a longer residual plus it takes out thrips which are a real PITA plus doesn't smell like shit. The owner of the nursery around the corner who's been using BT for 30 years said he switched to spinosad cause the BT quit working.

Been a tough year over here. Since this is my first big grow I think of it as the trial run and im changing a lot for next year, mostly the support system and watering/feeding methods. doing horizontal trellis netting. fuk bamboo tired of it and some of the rootts got severed by one close to the middle, not good. had a lot of bad genetics and sick plants but atleast i got a few good ones. Learned my lesson on that. theres too many things to list at the moment that will be changing. Anyways happy gardening and good luck to everyone. harvest season is here and man did it creep up fast!

Sounds fantastic, full details of this great machine please good Sir.

Here in N Spain there seems to be less Cat action this Autumn, probably due to dry Summer, hardly any about, 50% of them were on the Schnazzleberry Haze :-(

There is a provision for a minor use permit... there has to be some time to apply and be approved or denied.

And so it has come to pass...I dont know who thought of it, but several years back, someone at a county level decided the med growing could be better controlled and often times eradicated altogether by simply applying local county zoning ordinances. From a county control stand point, it was brilliant. Gro-Permits, use permits, sheriff involvement, inspector visits bla bla bla. IMHO, just your county's way of quietly getting their revenue fingers into the med-pie while controlling who's doing what and how you are doing it. All the while, making the entire permit process invasive and expensive enough as to discourage too many from doing it altogether.

The problem is 2-fold: First, attempting to secure growing permits from planning/zoning is as confusing, if not more, than trying to pull a permit for a remodel project, more problematic simply due to the county's lack of understanding of the mj growing requirements.

The second problem, and I believe by design, is that the MJ permit process lacks any discreetness towards the applicant. You are thrown into the permit process as if you were applying for a permit to reroof your house, therefore opening up yourself to any and all county departments for scrutiny, observation with no consideration to privacy. This process is meant to deter, not encourage. And it most countys, the ploy is working...CC
