Thanks Sticks...It's a tool shed, not a garage! No self-respectin cowboy needs a garage...LOL Yea, shootin for the 70-75 range. Being no pilgrim to the indoor dance, I was born n bred and corn fed for air control...lol CC

Update: Sleepy Hollow is in the early beginnings of first cut harvest. The top regions of my LA Cons, Querks, Grandaddys, Romulans and OGs are all showing 50/50 cloudy-amber. I do believe because the plants were close to 5ft in height when planted is contributing to the somewhat early harvest. That and a slightly higher elevation. The Sativas (Blue Dream & Cindy99) are still stacking. No bugs or cats. The buds being taken are firm, heavy and large. I dont think I could ask for better. Well, I would have liked to see some color on the purps but perhaps the second and third cuts will throw some color as we are just now beginning to see the lower temps around here. All plants slated for first cut have been flushed for 2 weeks so this cowboy is ready to whip n spur...

It just started raining here in the north end of the 530 around 6:30am. I thinks it's going to be a lite rain that shouldnt cause any problems in the Hollow but it is forecasted to be intermittent all day. I spent last nite up until dark tying up any branches I felt might not be able to handle the upcoming weather. I'm going to be on standby all day today to do misc. branch shaking if it comes to it. LOL I do worry that tomorrow the temps will be back in the 90's with a low in the high 50's tonite. Pretty big swing in temp change and with wet plants, could be a recipe for mold. We'll see.

Hope all my grow-pards are doin well, the summer has blessed y'all and everyone will soon enjoy the hard earned fruits of a long season of labor...CC

pics? :dunno:

good luck with the weather man :tiphat:

Thanks GP...Going to try and get some final pics on the larger plants before first round cut. Hopefully today! The whiskey barrel girls are already being harvested and because they are smaller in size (4ft) they will only require a 2 cut harvest- top half of the plant now, bottom half when those buds reach maturity. Another week/week 1/2 CC

Yeah, CC, I was hoping that the rain would be liiiiight, then the temps popping back up would inhibit the mildew...when the sun comes back out I'm spraying 10% skim milk fo sho.

So far nothing but a rainy smell here, somewhat to the south of you I guess, at a quarter of eight.

You're inspiring me to take another look at the OG / Querkle / Mendo Madness and see if maybe I can't justify pulling some tops...I dunno, they just don't look quite there yet...was it the kelp foliars after flowering that slowed it down? (Some of the OG, though, is looking might pretty, even a little purple tinging already.)

Happy Harvest CC!

Happy Harvest CC!

Hey Maps- Well, we got thru that one- just a lite mornin sprinkle here. As we come down to the harvest wire, a prelude of more fret and worry from things to come no doubt - in the form of the changing weather. LOL

I think you may have me confused with someone else in regards to kelp foliars. I just aint that technical. lol I have suspicions and theories as to why some of my crop is turning early but that's all it is- Suspicions and theories.lol As is a lot of this business! All I know is my scope doesnt lie.

Ive been attempting to upload some pics but HughesNet is pretty much shit when it comes to the pic upload thing. I suspect they have some idiot hangin off the satellite that is in charge of mj censorship. LOL CC

SMALL UPDATE- For those askin for pics, tell ya what. I'm a bit busy now cuttin, trimmin and rackin. That and ICMag and HughesNet cant seem to get on the same page which is causing me difficulty with pic uploads when I do find the time. I'm just one po gro-cowboy scmuck harvester/trimmer puttin in some long hrs just tryin to get the "hay" in the barn and Ive had to make some quick, on the fly adjustments to stay one step ahead. More on that later. Right now, as we all know, timing is the name of the game. 1)-Harvest 2)- Pre-trim 3) Get the shit on the dry rack. Over and over and over. LOL So bear with me gro-compadres, it is what it is....

If I ever get the pics uploaded, I'll give a quick show n tell of my rackin/dryin op. It's workin out pretty respectable...CC

Heavy time of year to be sure LOL. I'm way low on help myself with all the work I've signed up for this year, but it'll all get done.

Hope the rest of this whole deal goes as smooth as can be for ya CC.

Naw, I just didn't express my thought clearly. We've got several of the same strains, and I recently read in another part of ICMag that kelp may prolong flowering...I'm the one doing the kelp foliars, in other words, and I think they might have made some of the strains we have in common perform differently.

I went wild with foliars this year because I had never done them before and because I mixed my own soil with stuff from the homestead, so I have been concerned with making sure there's enough for them to eat.

Kelp and compost tea are definite winners. And 10% milk solution is apparently kicking butt on the early PM we've been finding here and there.

Love to see your dry setup when you get a chance.

Finally. my pic upload is working again, for now...Simple fix: Just have to wait til the satellite is directly overhead, climb up on a tall ladder, and hand the pics to the idiots! LOL

On with the harvest show:

First, pics of a few plants just before givin up the first cut of their sweetness-

ROMULAN- Definitely gonna grow this one again. It reached a height of apprx 8ft tall and about as wide. The top colas are an easy 4inches in dia and average 16 to 20 inches long. Real lunker-ettes.

picture.php

ODYSEY KUSH- Hearty hardy plant. I'm likin the strain for next year also. All 3 plants average 8ft in height with girths about the same. Colas are similar in size to the Romie.
picture.php

So, the dry shed: Not much in the way of fantastics or hi tech but industrial rated just the same. I built 5 racks, 2ft deep and 10ft long. Each rack is hinged and can swing upwards to help in bud loading and unloading. A drop down chain secures the racks in the "up" position. I am using 3/8 inch grid-rabbit wire for screen. I like the wire over cloth because under the weight of a lot of large heavy buds, the cloth will invariably begin to stretch and sag. The wire also allows for maximum hang-age count due to the smaller screen grid and small stuff can be laid on the bed of each rack. I had to temporarily hang the first cut tops of the Romulan because of impending rain. I dont like throwing them all in a pile because it mashes all the leaves into a sticky mess and slows the first trim process. That and it can wreak havoc on the trichs.

picture.php

Ah, there they are. Just the beginning of a long trim session. To give an idea of these bud sizes & lengths, the racks have a 16 inch clearance in between. I'm finding the dry period in this first stage is averaging around 5 days with a room temp almost equal to outside temp. In other words, all I'm doing is maintaining a constant airflow from outside to the inside of the shed. No direct fan=age. Here's my thinking: During the day, outside temps are in the 90's. Inside the shed, it runs about 80 with the constant air flo. At nite, with the much cooler temps, I cut back the air intake to 15 minutes on, 30 minutes off, thru the nite. So, a semi-aggressive drying heat during the day but a more passive cooling regime thru the nite. After the 5 days, the colas will be "knocked down", hit with final manicure and then begin the burping process. The humidity level has been right around 65-70. I believe the interior wood construction of the shed plays a part in keeping the humidity level acceptable because it absorbs a lot of the air moisture whereas a metal interior could cause condensation to form.

picture.php

Blue Dream- I'm warming up to the breed. They are finally beginning to set some nice buds and the top spars are awesome. Nasty nasty trich development and an almost euphoric aroma. I'm thinking the Sativas could make the line up again next year as season-ending kickers. Kind of like a 4th of July fireworks finale... Oh yea...CC

Looking real nice, CC! Nice touch on the swinging racks. Thanks for showing the setup.

Last year I did the Romulan and liked everything about it except the huge quantity of sweetleaf it had. By the time you get down to just bud it's a bit smaller than you'd have expected. But it smells great and has awesome colas. Hopefully your cultural techniques made the difference.

I've been stoked about the Blue Dream the whole time, it's looking like it would be pretty good already...but I'm sure it needs to go through this coming weather to reach its peak. The Record-Searchlight says after this weather it'll be pretty nice through the first half of October. Sounds good to me.

You are a solid dude, CC. Respect to you, and best in the home stretch.

My my my, what a cool 'garage'! ... just jokn CC, but I do love that harvest set-up!

All that work by yourself huh? Yea, I'm in that boat this year, was trying to get my pops to donate some time, but he's been bogged down with things... buddies from out of town too busy as well.

Thinking the strain I have that was labled 'odyssey' might be that odyssey kush you showed, mine wasn't as wide of a bush, but mine was also in an extremely shady part of the yard where it had to stretch for some sun. Candy-like smell is what mine has.

Anyways CC... really impressed by that harvest set-up, swinging racks, very cool!
