Basic #5

hey all was wondering if anybody has any info on this strain from way back when. an old timer told me that literally every single elite strain for the past 20 years has had basic #5 somewhere in her pedigree. im assuming shes an oldschool nl5, from it being crossed so many times obviously successfully, and because of the number 5 on the name lol. anyways, would really like one of pot drs to clear this up for . in the meantime, check out the reggae band Basic #5 www.facebook.com/basic5 i saw these guys with soja, cas haley, and easy star earlier this year, and didnt even know their name was a herb referrence lol. pretty kickass

NL that SSSC got from Neville...probably a daughter of the NL#5 selected by Nevil from seed :)

thanks raco!

thanks raco!

thanks raco! really nice to have you chime in on a thread of mine, i drool over your work on here all the time! Mucho Mucho respect! anyways, so if its a daughter of nevs nl5, then sensis nl should actually be basic 5 right? maybe backcrossed to the original cut or something?

Basic 5 was what she was called before the Super Sativa Seed Club sold there breeding stock to what is now Sensi Seeds and they flipped her name to Northern Lights 5.
They did a similar thing with M39 which is now called Shiva Skunk by Sensi. Ex: (sssc M39 lineage was skunk1 X Basic 5, Sensi calls it shiva skunk and lists that as Skunk1 X NL5)

SSSC M39 ...Basic5 x Skunk#1 is not the same than Sensi´s Shiva Skunk...NL#5 x Skunk#1...sure they are related but parents were not the same... you dig? :D

from what I Read a few years ago, when the sssc got the cut they weren't supposed to have it.. I'm not sure if sam got it to them from the american northwest.. but they weren't supposed to have it, so instead of calling it NL #5 they went with Basic 5.

if sam had it, why dont we ever see any mention of it in his threads? i figure we would as its supposed to be a building block for most hybrids out there, just like skunk1, haze, afghan or thai. wish we could hear from sam himself on this

Shiva skunk is the closest thing that I know of out there to m39. I've grown alot of 39 and only some shiva. The similarities were incredible in structure, taste , odor. Etc.

AKAIK thats how Sensi got it from sssc but with all the stories floating around I wouldn't doubt it being a BS story. Does sound a little fishy. But I do stand by my statement that shiva and 39 are definitely very close relatives. Not the exact same parents but if you can't get a cut of 39 shiva is a good alternative.

just wondering now that shiva skunk was brought up, isnt medusa nirvanas new name for shiva? and isnt shiva also the old school name for garlic bud?

i was just about to say but you beat me to it...shiva skink is basicly a recreation of m39....just like many breeders try to recreate another breeders work...

clone only...but you can find seeds(s1) but are very very rare to find, mostly you will find NL5 x sk1 named m39 but in reality just a remake

well dont go for shiva or m39 then...they are low odor ow taste strains(i speak form39), it has a very plain taste, and smells like fresh pumpkins when growing(the plain watery smell)

if your looking for something with a good taste i would stay clear of m39 or anything of the likes....good for big yield but thats it
