Who sells good breeding stock

I think that anybody who grows this plant long enough will consider breeding. It seems like a natural progression. The question I have is this: Which breeders stock crosses well in your experience.

I often make F2’s and further crosses of inbred lines when I grow my varieties. This helps to insure I can have access to those plants in the future. Which plants that you have crossed did the best? Which breeder available through the standard outlets gives you the best basic breeding stock? Thanks…
PS: I admire Tom Hills open polination large population breeding program. I believe he is on the right track.

i think anything that is an IBL will work best. If you cross two IBls your bound to have some damn good hybrid vigour. Trouble is finding out which lines are inbred. Maybe best emailing the breeders direct and ask them. At the moment, theres softs sweet tooth 4 IBL doing the round. Some of rez inbred lines, and i think theres blockhead coming soon.

Im pretty sure most compaines that sell skunk, white widow, bubblegum, nothern lights should be inbred, and will make great breeding material.

Good luck in your quest!

x2 on the IBL. Take Sam's Original Haze x Skunk. Both great plants that have been around forever. Both make great parents, so what happens when you cross them with each other? Awesomeness.

I would look into original haze or any pure sativas (Ace/CBG) or indicas (Deep Chunk, Paki Chitral Kush, etc.). You could take a look at Rez's Chem/SD work and pick up one of those IBLs. Not sure how well they breed, but from what I've seen, you can't go wrong with that selection.

Definitely Ace gear for sure :good:

As mentioned the Swt #4 is inbred now to 5th gen and is an IBL and outcrosses VERY well and inbreeds true for it's aroma, high resin production, & overall growth vigor. The Sweet Tooth line was already very stable to begin with as far as incrossing goes because it was backcrossed already several times by Breeder Steve to the SPG. It's good hardy stock and the plants grow fast in veg and bloom to maturity in about 8 weeks time. Multiple parents were used and all the packs that have been up recently on the bay/boo are evenly mixed from the different Indica & Sativa leaning mothers used in the seed run to assure pheno diversity in every pack. :canabis:

SOTF420; Good on you for using multiple parents!!
Kaymo, Habel, and Rusty420, I want to thank you each for your good advice and keen observations.
I have been considering this problem, like many of you, for some time. I do not think we discuss it enough when evaluating seed lines...Anyway thanks again guys. I am on it.

Ace seeds and Mr. Nice have some jewels.

At the same time several breeders in British Columbia offer some true old school classics (NL#5, Blueberry, Sweet Skunk crosses, Romulan etc.) that compete toe to toe with the latest flavors of the month.

It's a pity they don't sell their gear at the Bou and therefore names shall not be mention.

Just my 2 cents...

i second the blueberry, pck and deep chunk and will add mighty mite for outdoor crosses, isnt the most potent, but adds mold resistance etc to anything you cross it with.and nl is a classic.p***s nl is pretty stable

Really thanks for the suggestions. One of the things I am concerned about is the breeding practice of one male and one female. You know the "sugardaddy male" and the elite female. I mean we all know that breeding with such limited populations causes inbreeding depression, genetic bottlenecking if you will.

I know these breeders rightfully respond that they breed for the F1 gen. So that folks can pick a "pheno" and clone it forever (like caliO). But which breeders breed with the idea that you will be making multiple generations?

For example I have SSh and Mango Haze and Afgan haze and between the three of them there is only haze a or haze c as a male. TWo progenitor male for the whole ball of wax!! When I grow them in future genrations I hope they do not bottleneck; but it does not sound like a great start to me. I know most are only interested in getting a pheno and cloning it as long as possible. Heck they can buy some more F1's years later if they lose their clone. That is probable a better use of your time and resources.

But I am a freak. I want to hold nobel lines INTACT.

It just kills me to see the filial generations from some of these crosses with their "mutations", stunted growth, failure to thrive and of course sterillity that leads to poor or no germination. It is not always that way; if you use enough members from each generation you can hold off the inevitable.

I guess what I am interested in is the stories of multiple generation crosses without significant problems arising in the offspring.

BTW I could never figure out the number of parents in the current PCK offerings (though I have four packs to see how they workout).

Maybe this is a pipe dream of mine?

would agree that you want to look for landraces or 'proper' ibls - things that have had some work put into them over a few generations and that will have some true breeding qualities.

anyone can cross two strains/varieties together at the end of the day - so spend your money on the stuff that isnt already a f1 or multi-hybrid and make the crosses yourself.

Congratulation for you starting a breeding project and good luck man :tiphat:
Personally I would start with a F1 between a pure indica nad pure sativa. Gear from Tom, ACE, CBG...
You can choose from:
Indicas: China Yunnan, Pakistani Chitral Kush, Taskenti, Deep Chunk, X18, PTK...
Sativas: Panama, Guatemala Sativa, Congo, Destroyer, Nepal Highland. There also lots of nice Thai and Haze crosses you can also use.
Entering some of Dj Shorts genetics wont hurt too.
Hoping you find what you are looking for {;

Hahaha

This thread is awesome and makes me want to place an order soon. I'm wanting the sativa high I know I've never experienced (even the Kali Mist didn't satisfy) and ACE or CannaBiogen has too many endorsements to overlook. I want to give a summer grow a shot and I think a long flowering sativa would be perfect.

As far as experience with breeders, DJ Shorts F13 gave me Excellent results. I got 3 ladies (and 1 viable male!!), all three ladies smoked awesome, loved it, and the smoke didn't last long at all:D The Kali Mist from Serious gave one good pheno out of five. I've also grown Nirvana, Joint Doctors, Mdanzig, and Spice Brothers genes. Out of my limited experience with those 6 breeders, DJ is the only one I would write home about.
