Finally an El Dorado grow

I appreciate the updates and pics. I also have had bad luck with the Oaxacan El Dorado from Nirvana.

Ive tried 3 seeds and I believe all were male. I had to tear down a grow at my previous location but maybe I killed 1 female but I doubt it was. My space was very restricted on my second go at this strain and it stretched like crazy.... Im almost glad it was male because I would have been mad if it was female and didnt have any room to finish it.

The leaves of the second ElDorado you had were just like the one I had to get rid of recently. Very thin leaves... a pure sativa.

Ive noticed this strain is VERY easy to clone. I had roots in as little at 4 days from cutting. Im only have about 5 more ElDorado beans so I hope to find at least 1 lady. This is one of the strains I want to add to my small collection because it comes from the motherland. I want the pure sativa effect which is described as legendary.

Im looking forward to seeing the female El Dorado in full bloom with some colas... it is somewhat rare to see this plant finished. Very hard to find pictures online. Keep us updated.

Yep, seems like Eldorado is as elusive as anything "legendary" :)
I payed a visit to my friend's balcony but didn't take a camera, will take it next time. The Eldorado has had a mishap of staying 10 days without water and almost died, 2/3 of the leaves and lower buds are gone, only the tops survived with many pistils turned brown. But now it's recovering and bursted in new bud growth. This plant is flowering since the middle of July, and now - more than 2 months later - it's still in the middle of flowering, with virtually no smell and very small trichomes.
I tell my friend to be happy and patient, as plants that flower that long usually have the best high. Hopefully this is going to be the case :)

Yesterday evening I chopped the top branch of the Full Moon. It was more mature as bud development and pale in color compared to the other branches. I don't know, maybe the top being eaten by the caterpillars has caused this quick maturation. On this photo you can see the difference in leaf color between the top and the other branches (represented by several leaves on the bottom of the photo):

been a lurker on this thread for a while, i admit the el dorado calls to me with memories of certain mexican buds in the 70's
or so i fantasize, waiting for the harvest and smoke report most eagerly

Could be intresting scrog these monsters indoor. Once scrogged Nirvana Purple power to keep it down indoors. Way to do those heavy od plants inside.

yoss33, nice grow with these Nirvana sat's. Hope they finish fully. In this part of world, no chance to do those outside. :)

Some photos from October, 1st, of the Full Moon without its biggest branch:

Caterpillar damage (with a tiny offender on an unfocused leaf above the bud):

As well as some night shots with a camera phone and some greyish people for size reference :)

An update on the Eldorado dwarf on the balcony:

Nice reddish/pink pistils. Damn slow flowering. No smell, few and very small trichomes. Maybe the few hours of direct sunlight are not enough for such a sativa. Also I keep repeating to my friend to water less but as a novice grower he "feels" it needs more water, and so it has been at least a little over-watered the whole time, except the 10 days in August that it didn't receive any water and lost its leaves.

And the rest of the Full Moon got harvested this evening :) A successful season with enough herb to last me till next year, yeah :)
It could have gone some more but the weather will be getting bad on Saturday and besides the smell is starting to "mature" which I relate to the high starting to lose its energetic feeling. The yield looks great for a sativa, hopefully will not shrink much with drying.

I usually hang as big branches/plants as possible to fit and dry with all leaves untouched for a slower initial drying. The branches are "alive" a few more days and squeeze the last resins they can. The branch cut on the 27th of September is still moist.

Nice density and resin production:

It indeed stinks A LOT :) An old-fashioned bedroom of rotten fruit and pine :)

Seeing that you are from the UK, I'm not sure how it will perform there. Here, it didn't rain a single time during the whole flowering, only sun, and day temperatures haven't fallen bellow 20*C (and bellow 13*C during nights).
It's worth trying though, especially if you like early-harvested bud :) Flowering is quite fast under the sun compared to most pure sativas and resin appears early on.

Thanks for the congratulations, people :thank you:
I'm very happy with the yield and quality of this plant. Even after all the mishaps it had - fallen over and burnt by lamps, borers into stems, crushed by storm with only a few small bottom branches left, it is the biggest plant I've grown. It just kept doubling every 3 weeks. Great to see what Thai "tree" genes, good soil and strong sun can do together.
Next year I'll be prepared with a net or some sticks early on to try to grow something even bigger... this forum is inspirational and contagious :)

About which Nirvana's sativa is "best",
Out of:
Jock Horror,
NL x Haze,
Haze,
Durban Poison,
Royal Flush,
Full Moon,
New York Power Diesel,
(skipping White Widow, PPP and skunks)

The strongest I've tried is the pure Haze. It was indoor grown (HPS + MH) by a friend and harvested a bit on the late side, so I guess it'll be even stronger and more complex under the sun. I would also pick it earlier for a cleaner and more euphoric high.
Full Moon even uncured is very good also - trippy, clean and focused without any after effects. Lacking on the "feel good" department, compensated with lots of energy.
But I like the most the "kind" feeling of the Royal Flush. It has good trip yet it is always positive, anti-anxiety and social. Always. Great companion in the long run.
Royal Flush is the reason I want to grow the Eldorado so much, this year without success.

About which Nirvana's sativa is the earliest to flower,
I think the best ratio sativa/early harvest is Durban Poison, which was ready on the 26th of Sept here at 44 degrees north. It has a trippy effect similar to the Full Moon, just with a little indica body buzz added. It's more sativa (clear and energetic) effect than the Jock Horror which is also ready in the end of September, though Jock generally has a more pleasant effect (unless you cut it late). Durban Poison seemed better in terms of mold and bug resistance.

Hope that helps, with the disclaimer that the above conclusions are based on a few plants (2-5) of each strain. :tiphat:

Nice work yoss, I know we had this convo before about the sat ratio in this strain, but with more of a cure (SE Asian varieties often need 3 months+) the positive anti anxyolitic traits may emerge. I hope so, well done mate.

I hope so too, though the effect didn't change much after 2 months of cure. When I want more comfort in the high, I mix the Full Moon with a little of Royal Flush and the result is superb.

There's one thing that bothers me - the taste upon inhalation. Generally, it's a normal sativa taste (woody, sour, a bit of coffee). But it has a harsh stingy note when inhaling concentrated smoke from the pipe (the usual way I smoke). The more moist left in the bud, the harsher it is.
When vaporized, it has a minty ginger taste which is not unpleasant, but in the high-temperature burning of the pipe this minty/peppery flavor becomes too sharp and stingy. It doesn't irritate the throat and lungs (though the smoke is very expansive) but is a stinger on the tip of the tongue for a few seconds. It also leaves a metallic (ionized?) taste in my mouth.
When smoked in a joint, because of the lower temperature of burning I guess, the sting is very light, and only the metallic after-taste can be felt.
I dunno if this metallic taste is normal, I've had similar-but-weaker taste in uncured Haze and NLxHaze. I thought that now this might be due to some salts accumulation because of the rich soil the plant grew into, though it didn't show any signs of over-fertilization. But then I tried the other 2 Full Moon plants that I gave and were grown by friends, and they had the same problem... the smoke is harsh. Perhaps Full Moon requires very light diet (starvation) in the last month to have a really smooth smoke. Or it needs to be smoked very dry to avoid this wicked sting.
