ScroG - Super Cheese; stretch much?

Great job BET, and like you said,,making better use of light penetration..it's the key. Really nice work, and with scrogerman in your corner, you couldn't miss. Are you hooked on scrogs yet??

Hey Warped, thanks for stopping by.

Yes, certainly with this 150W. I think I wouldn't even consider anything but scrog in the future unless I was using 600W or more. I've seen some awesome awesome scrog's with 400W HPS, and I'm hoping to upgrade to a 250W with Lumatek ballast for my next grow. Better light penetration on that could mean even longer cola's. Summer time in attics is no fun temp wise, and mine fluctuated quite a bit early on. It meant that some of my internodes are further apart than I'd like, but others are quite close. Close is best, like in Loki's thread. Tight buds ftw

Question: I'm letting them grow upwards now, I've been training them for just over a month into 12/12, and they are now laying on the bud. However, some of the stems are shooting up faster than others, despite them all having good light coverage. Should I tie these bigger ones down? It is starting to look a little uneven in there.

I'll post pics later. Just charging battery for camera :)

Pics. Any opinions on this would be welcomed. I've done alright so far, but if there is anything drastically obvious from these pics that I ought to be doing now, please shout!

Hey BET,
Looks like your doing good to me bro, nice job. if your worried about apical dominant colas shooting off, i either pinch/crush the stem &or pull them down tying to the screen. but like i said think your doing a good job! k+

Thanks guys, appreciate your kind words!

@ Scrogerman, it's getting quite bushy in there. Is it safe to trim larger fan leaves still at this point through flowering? They've been flowering about 3.5 to 4 weeks, been on 12/12 for 5. Flowering (pistils) starting showing after about a week or maybe 9 to 10 days MAX.

Appreciate your thoughts on this. Some say trimming at this stage can hermie a plant, but some of the larger fan leaves are cock blocking light to some of the lower colas. I have pulled some of the taller stems back down through the screen, and had to pinch one or two. I expect that is also stress at this point through flowering, so I may as well continue to trim the larger leaves? Maybe just not so many at once?

Cheers

PS this stuff is smelly, in an AWESOME way.

Id remove problem leaves, maybe a few every/everyother day, but i wouldn't take too many from the upper third of the plant myself, just do it slowly, its never bothered me doing it that way, stress is always a concern. I tuck & rotate, reposition too. strains will respond differently ime.
Smelly is usually a good sign! G'Luck!

Thanks mate, yeah I've taken it easy on her, not gone all Edward Scissor hands :D

Here are some more pics. Its looking good. The bud is starting to pile on and each day I can visibly notice a change in her size and density

btw the burn in the 2nd pic is when I had the CFL's installed and a leaf got too close. I removed the CFL's because they meant I lost about 4" of height between my light and the canopy, due to the CFL's being attached on the sides and hanging down. I will invest in some T5's next time

Those buds are filling up nicely :)

And that burn in the second pic, its nothing man dont worry about that :)

Ive been experimenting some with Secret Jardians TNeon light and they are very good!

Cheers Loki, yeah not worried about that its just where one leaf touched the CFL's - which I've since removed

Anyone offer any advice on this? Its the best pic I could get. You can see that the top part of the cola is fairly whispy and doesn't have much growth on it. Several of the ones closer to the light are like this. Its almost as if I can see them not becoming dense with bud. They have another 4 to 5 weeks left. Looks almost like more stretch to me, but I'm not sure. They may fill out, but my honey b didn't do this... there is a lot of plant in there competing for the 150W HPS, but all the bud is within 10" of the light, at maximum, some of the taller ones are inches only...

The internode spacing isn't much, so I'm wondering whether this is just where the plant has reached for the light and will fill out nicely in the last few weeks?

Thanks

Here is an update. They are 'supposed' to have about 3 weeks left, giving them 8-9 weeks flowering. It might taken 4... I really hope the tops fill up, you can really see they are sparse in these pics although I have seen similar in other grow threads and they seem to go bat shit crazy near the end of their flowering :)

Comparing the pictures to other similar grows, they may even have 5 weeks left. Any opinions on the tall spindly growth of the tops?

its similar to foxtailing.
temps & certain element abundance will/can do that iirc(N,K overabundance etc), also could be strain & sensitivity which is more likely imo. Ill see what i can find out for ya, ive had that happen on certain pheno's from seedplants & not on others, with same strain(not the one your growing).

give us some details on what you've been feeding exactly, temps etc. surfice to say i never kept the pheno's that did that, did mine fill out that did that, sorry to say they didnt at the very top mate, but its early days for you so dont be worrying.
sorry i aint much help, ill go see what i can find. still looks good to me bro.

I just checked back over ya thread & its only 1 plant, so yeah its likely just a trait of that particular pheno, another bean could look/act completely differently, thats the way it goes with seedplants somtimes.

Cheers Scrogerman,

well temps have been fine, they have been max 80 degree's and minimum of like 67 at night. I've been feeding it a strick 10ml dosage of Terra Canna Flores, which is 2ml under the recommended amount given my container size (2.2ltr milk bottle). I had read a few places that said don't feed the full 5ml / ltr, and she hasn't shown any nute burn whatsoever.

I've just googled around on what you've advised, and have read pretty much exactly what you are suggesting, that it is all in the pheno. It will still produce nice bud and its primary role is to supply me with good smoke.

I'll keep you posted! :)

ps the water is natural rain water, and the same rain water was awesome for my honey b grow. I used bio bizz all through that grow, so the canna is the only difference here really, same cab, temps etc... just doing scrog this time. Was a bit worried that it was because they were fighting for light, but I've read information to the contrary now. The Canna came highly recommended from a friend who uses all Canna products. He always gets great results.

Shame they are so tall like that because I could be lowering the light otherwise to get closer to the buds that are fat lol
