Pollen Bank

Has anyone tried opening a Cannabis Pollen Bank? No laws against selling yellow pollen....;)

I think it's a GREAT idea. I hope I didn't let my secret out of the bag !?!

Not the first I have heard of such a thing, problem seems to be the transportation and short shelf life of pollen.

My main concern would be how bad is customs going to freak out when they receive an over night envelope leaking yellow powder that's got a bad day written all over it.

it's like sending semen through the mail, really, not that I have ever done that, I swear.

but I think any fluctuations in temperature would be devastating to pollen.

maybe you should try and call up a mail order sperm bank to get some pointers

i've got freeze dried pollen that is still just fine after 1 1/2 years
but a discrete 'pollen print' say on some absorbent paper(for increased dryness and stealth) has possibilities
express shipment of say 3-4 days ought to be within a workable time window

Yeah the whole pollen bank thing has been knocked around for years. Pollen can be shipped in a flat envelope which you can't do with beans. I arranged to have some pollen from a bean breeder shipped to a friend and took 5 days. Even though he knows his shit about pollen handling it arrived as a baked chunk cause it was shipped during a very hot period. In retrospect if it was shipped faster probably would have been OK.

I like the freeze drying thing. I know they use that method to dry intestinal bacteria supplements. Moisture level of stuff dried that way easily down around 3-4% and would be helpful.

Male selection is much harder than female selection, you would have pollen from shitty males everywhere and there is no way in hell you are getting the pollen from breeders' males...thats their gold. :joint: Good idea on paper but in reality it would fuck the market up.

I like that idea. I do agree that breeders (say, Soma's Ghaze male) sending out their male pollen to just anybody is a slim possibility and the storage/viability issue is a big deal. It would also be another way for people who aren't able to receive clones to still get (a fair representation of) those genetics when a cutting is reversed.

i have actually thought about this quite a bit....
i understand wat ur saying calcio.... but its not like seeds is it? if u buy a breeders seeds u can keep clone mothers for years to come... but with pollen, u can only use so much to make a cross then its gone.... maybe theyd hav to switch up the strains pollen their selling so no one can continually use their male gems for any kind of continuous serious breeding, and i think for the most art its jst gonna be closet pollen chuckers who are making their own cross to grow themselves...
i think its a great idea, rovided like u said calcio the only thing i can think of being a serious roblem is bad male pollen flooding the market of good pollen....
and the breeders dont have to use their p1 stock... they could grow out their own f1s or whatever their seeds are and sell those males pollen... i mean u could already jst buy the seeds and grow em out and collect pollen from the same male that im sayin the breeders could use....
anyway i think its a great idea...... but far from a reality.....
im in desperate need of pollen but im scared to do more that one maaaaaybe 2 cuz i dnt want to get the pollen mixed up......

off topic but u know jlp has a thread on a diy male isolation chamber? its very practical and very helpful when quality control and pollen control is an absolute MUST! the very reason i dnt have lots of pollen already till now.... but i think im gonna set up a few of these... if ur curious use the search engine here and search male isolation chamber with search thread titles only.
