Not to be a party pooper but AZ has a SHITTY MMJ law. What kind of BS is you can't have any personal grows within 25 MILES of one of their dispensaries? Are they backdoor outlawing personal grows but authorizing state grown cannabis? So it's ok for one of their 126 but mikey growing 10 plants in his closet is illegal? How did you all allow that?

I was always curious about the wording in that law that dispensaries have a monopoly within their 25 mile radius. While dispensary licenses seem to be on hold at present, what would happen to a personal grower or caregiver should that change and a license holder pops up within their 25 mile zone? Are they immediately illegal?
Where do the dispensaries get their supply?
I own property in AZ. but don't live there and I haven't really deciphered the law. It does seem unusually slanted to favor canna business over the individual. What harm does a patient do by growing his own within that 25 mile zone other than deprive a dispensary of his 'business'?

I smell something here and it ain't Kush. I hate to think the lobbyists have taken the plant over as well as everything else.
Not that I would be surprised because of the enormous profits involved, but I had really hoped that, at least in this 'industry', that fair play and patients rights would be respected.

Sigh...It must be my inner Pollyanna crying out from the past.
AZ. residents are going to have to battle the moneymen on this one and get this law fixed.

A very well written article, Azez. More info on the legal aspects as you understand them will be helpful. I'm having a hard time understanding how they sold this legislation as being useful to ill people unless it was sold on the idea that the law would only have to deal with certified dispensary operations and everybody else is illegal except in the 'free' zones.

Edit; you covered the legal aspects really well. I guess I'm asking for your take on the machinations behind whats written in the law.
Can we assume that Joe Blow who has a few bucks and meets the requirements of dispensary ownership will be passed over for someone who is well connected to the local political apparatchiks and is a campaign contributor?

Edit again: Stupid question, never mind.
Arizona is going to be any different than the rest of the world?

OK, Pollyanna...back in the hole.

the law was definitely drafted by the pro cannabusiness community. they put up the cash to pay $1 per signature to get it on the ballot.
it was a very tuff decision to vote for it, and i actually started a poll here and most were for passing it any ways.
