What's new

twisting and slight yellow - lack of air??????

using the same CFLs I've used in the past...but this time I'm using an enclosure that doesn't have much air...there's cracks for air to get through, and sometimes I leave the door open a bit, but some of the plants look REALLY fucked up...like they had too much nutes or something...but it's not nutes. It has to be the air...I've never had that much of a problem with it before though...I've got a 3x3 cab and it's NOT airtight at ALL, with just one fan inside to keep them dancing and to spread air...is it possible they're just not getting enough air? This will definitely be a first for me. Not sure what I can do. On one plant the sets of leaves are just bam one after the other and there's hardly any gap between the sets of leaves. On another plant the leaves look kinda yellow. On the one big plant everything is fine. Wonder what the heck is going on.

Punch 3 equal sized holes in the cab. One at the top for exhaust fan, two at the bottom for passive intake and close the door.

will give it a try...cab is actually a huge piece of wood furniture...long story

well I couldn't wait for the store to open so i used a knife and a hammer, and basically just ripped a hole in it...pretty big, like 5" across. Placed the fan up against that...hopefully it sucks in the outside air????
Yeah this isn't a very high tech grow man. I'm hoping that air is enough though. I'll keep you posted.

Intake fans are the fastest, easiest way to achieve positive pressure. Intake fans used with no exhaust are begging for disaster. We want negative pressure. Neg pressure requires you to pull through the cab not push into it.

You want 3 holes with 2 at the bottom for intake, 1 at the top for the fan set to exhaust.

High man, heres a couple of examples to illustrate what FreezerBoy is saying.

First, a couple of my clone-box where i'm using 2 pc fans to suck air out the top and in through a large passive intake at the bottom.

The back view.

From the front looking inside.

Heres a couple of my mother-box, unfortunately most of the pics are stored under my first account that I was forced to abandon for security reasons.

The outside.

With the lid open, ...to the right you can see the exhaust fan, just like a pc fan but bigger.
picture.php

...and heres a shot looking inside, unfortunately, you can't see the passive intakes worth shit.

And heres a couple of my flower-box.

First, the front.

Now looking inside where you can see 2 large passive intakes.

And finally, a look at the rear where i've aimed the exhaust to blow across the 2 DIY ballasts for the 150's in the cool-tube.

...as a DIYer with a tendency towards laziness I seldom calculate things and instead just 'eyeball' it and with every cab i've built my guesstimate was inadequite and my intakes needed to be enlarged.

For your own peace of mind i'd suggest you read redgreenry's thread so you will have a solid foundation in understanding air-flow.

...fresh air is as important for the health of your plants as it is for your own health and the smaller the box, the more critical good air-flow becomes.

yeah, am the same, guesstimater :)

works fine though, most of the time lol.

i have the cab bit raised up on 3 "planks" open in the back. (actually 4, but get to that later)

instead of a intake hole, i have a bunch of them, on the bottom plate of the cab.

combined about double the size of the outtake. half inch each hole or so.

just all over the floor, with a "plank" as support right under the bottom plate in the middle.

sealed cab, so the air only comes through those bottom holes, straight up at the light and moving every single leaf on every plant. (id seal those cracks when you make a intake)

lol guesstimated the number of holes wrong though, sucking in the doors bit much.

and yeah, id say it was lack of air and heat thats killing your plants.

You're welcome man, glad I could help clarify things, ...oh yeah, thanks for the kind words, that mother-box has been running non-stop for more than 3 years now and it's the only one of my builds to make it to pontiacs link-o-rama, albeit under a name I was forced to abandon for security reasons.

Peace, and stay safe, SOG

uuuh... security reasons? And you just told them how to defeat your security...?
