SSH: how to choose the right pheno?

I am growing SSH from seed.
Searching the forum I read it's an unstable strain with many different phenotypes.
How to find a keeper?
What characteristics should I look at?

Grow them all out. Pick the one that is the best smoke with a yeild and flowering time you deem acceptable. It will vary. It really depends on what you are looking for.

photosensitivity is another good characteristic to take a look at. Pay attention to which plants start to flower the earliest/clone the best/reveg well. Another thing to pay attention to is the overall size/health of the root system, this is usually a pretty good indicator of the plants overall quality.

Keep your eyes out for stems that are more hollow as well as they tend to be indicative of higher thc levels in plants. You'll know what's up after you flower them out.

there is a bunch of phenos most being awesome...

Skunk/NL Pheno - spicey rotten fruit smell and shortest flower time
Catpiss Pheno- mid-range flowering time
Haze phenos - 70 -110 days depending as SSH can shoot out the odd impractal haze pheno that just keeps flowering forever with no yield

You really got to clone every female and do atleast one run and you might want to keep two or even three phenos as all of them are super potent and tasty in there own ways

I have 4 SSH that were flowered at about 7 days from pop.
At 5 wks the most hazy one is about 23" and the others are close. It appears the stretch has stopped.
All 4 are uniquely different from one another, although all have very wispy/hazy buds yet.
I'm curious at what point do the buds start to fatten?

My hazy pheno fills in all at once in the last two weeks. It smells like grapefruit/mango and even though it doesn't floor you like the nl pheno I also run, I like it more for the very unique taste and the high is very up.

Everyone should experience the pleasure of going through a pack of ssh from mr. nice, always fun. 15+ seeds per pack helps too

Grow 'em all, smoke 'em all and the only problem will be that you'll like 'em all!Its true what the iceman said about those 3 phenos and in my experience, people like the catpiss 75 dayish plant, they claim it gets them laid.The longer Hazy ones are real haze and super head rushing stony and the shorter flowering skunk plants are nice and fat, mostly skunky with a sharp haze twang and strong, hell they're all strong!!Enjoy them, I've kept cuts of every pheno described and they are all very easy to grow, are ph drift tolerant, insect tolerant and most importantly, mold tolerant.What more you could ask for, I don't know but somebody above said that everybody should have the great pleasure of growing out a pack of these seeds and that is too, too true.Enjoy, and all the best!,Chaco. At the end I found a pheno I like.
Potent, good aroma, it doesn't flower fast, it isn't an heavy yielder, it is a robust plant but over all it is completely without smell even when flowered (this is very very important for me).
Anybody has a pheno like that?

I have one kinda like that ...

Did a 18 seed/grow selection earlier this year; in my opinion, taste/aroma is number one trait to look for, potency is generally good to awesome across all the phenos, yield and even finish time can vary dramatically ... but those are judgments that only the grower can make.

I would think if you grow out the whole pack (and I'm talking MNS genetics ONLY), you should be able to carry 3 to 5 into a second round of selection. You don't really know what you got until you cut, root and flower out a couple of cuts of each.
