You can prolly get the ceramic socket at your local hardware.

You don't need the cap if you're growing in the home. Residential power rates are based on use, not draw. Your cap-less ballast will draw enough load to strike the bulb and return the unused draw to the wall. I've been running a security light w.o a cap for 5 years straight. No reliability problems so far.

Sugarbear's remote diy also has a diagram for cap-less and cap models. You could buy one of those inexpensive kits w/o the cap and still add a cap if you want. The thread lists the size you'd need, the diagram makes the wiring easier. Best wishes.

back...

Hey folks, I'm back with a few upgrades. Look for my new grow in the sig.

Here's a pic of my last grow, Widowrella from Female Seeds. Lovely smoke.

Here is a nug growing under the 150hps.

And here she is cured almost 4 weeks.

Enjoy.

Would your basic porcelain/ceramic socket will work with HPS bulbs as long as you have a ballast powering it? (silver and bonze screw for connections)

Or is there an HPS specific socket I need to find. *EDIT Apparently 4Kv pulse rated socket is needed

That would be sweet as I have about 8 porcelain/ceramic sockets from a failed CFL setup :)

Yeah, as long as it's hooked to the ballast it'll work. There are two 150 HPS socket sizes, medium and mogul. You most likely have the medium socket, same size as a household light socket.

Whoops, had a reply here about socket sizes but realized I didn't know anything about 150W setups.

I could have used a little more experience with the 150 before i made the switch. But, I'll take all I've learned over the first 3 grows and hopefully get some great head stash from the 250.

Lookin nice Disco!

You are a little ahead of me in flower so it should be nice and interesting to watch our grows as they flower and the buds develop. :)

Yea I was seeing that those stretched quite a bit on ya since the last pic I saw posted.

I hear you on the over vegging. My BBG and PE were vegged a bit longer than I would have liked. Luckily I have some extra headroom but the PE stretched quite a bit and the BBG is very indica so it didnt stretch massively but I wanted to keep them a bit shorter for better penetration wit the 150 but my tent setup wasnt ready til a week later than I would have liked to have switched to 12/12.

I have 3 feet from floor to ceiling and my light can go up another 6". How much space are you working with in your flower chamber LxWxH?

Since Im a cheap bastard I scoured the internet for a cheap solution for a 150w. I found a 150w ballast for 20 (9 shipping :/ )bucks here http://www.lightbulbsurplus.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=18

I got 5 bucks off because I was high. I put it in my cart, went to check out, and entered all my info besides credit card info. Then I checked another site to see if I could get better shipping rates, then a random thought popped into my head and I ended up on Wikipedia researching Soviet Nuclear Disasters. Completely forgetting I had the ballast in my cart in another tab in firefox, I closed firefox and went outside. Anyway, when I checked my email later, lightbulbsurplus sent me a reminder that I had items in my cart but never paid. They sent me a code for $5 off if I came back and bought the items from them. Hopefully this will help any fellow cheapos trying to get started.

BTW, any recommendations on good HPS bulbs?

I just use standard HPS bulbs. I think the brand I am using right now is Plusrite. I ordered two of them off eBay real cheap (like $13 shipped for two). I am using a new bulb this run. I havent used plant specific bulbs in the 150w size. I couldnt tell you if theres much difference really. Id just go with a cheap one since then you dont feel bad switching them out for a fresh bulb once in a while. I dont wait for the bulb to burn out before I switch to a new one since the bulbs lumen output degrades over time. Get the most lumens per watt out of your little 150 with a fresh bulb every grow or two. Thats what I would do.

After a hiatus of not growing for a few months (due to my nosy douchebag landlords) I'm back. I just popped some home made beans, 6 AK-47 x (C99x Deep Chunk) and 3 Chuck-D x (C99 x Deep Chunk). Just waiting on the last 2 Chuck-D crosses to break ground. I have them in rapid rooters in my 9 position Aero system under a 150w MH lamp. I'm hoping for a super mom of each to start up my grow for real. With super clones in hand, I plan on building one of 2 designs I've been working on. Either a 3 tier octagon using 2.6l pots hand watering coco/ perlite. 48 pots angled toward/ around 2- 150w hps. The other idea will involve 2 vinyl fence post aero v-scrog with the 2-3 150w hps hanging in between them.
