well since my last post I went to the home de "pot" and picked up some supplies for my custom cab. It is 5 sq.ft. with 42 inches of height. its like 22.5 cu. ft. . I have most of it built I just have to finish the ceiling of it. I built it in sections so I could be able to dismantle it if needed. I have a 400 watt. HPS/MH ballast, cooled reflector, and a 4 Inch inline fan on order now, I should have all of the equipment here by next week. I am only going to loose 6.5 inches of vertical room from the hood. I will have some pics. next week as soon as I start putting the equipment in. Also in other news I have a pack of Female seeds- Iced Grapefruit on the way for this new cab and I will also be running a few clones of my Nirvana bubblicious mommy, so things are going to start getting interesting coming next week if not by the following week. Thanks for all of the feed back though guys !!!!!!!

pretty soon I am going to be finishing up the cab on sunday, and the cab is at a friends house and that is where my momma plant is growing too so I will snap some shots of her as well as the cab.

ok it has been a little while since I have last posted on my cab, but things have been coming around quite well since then. I have been working hard on everything the box is completely built, my filter is made and I am just waiting on my quantum 400 that should be here by tomorrow along with my 4 inch inline and my mylar I have everything else I need to start growing I even got my female seeds Iced Gapefruit popped and going along with sams mixed x og haze/skunk#1 and my bubblicious that will be the first ones going into the cab.

I have been thinking of going with the hortilux 430 watt HPS bulb and the cab is going to be vertical I feel this is going to be my best way for the cab I have, that way I don't have to sacrifice any vertical growth. I have taken some pics. but the camera I have is so very terrible that I am almost ashamed to post them thats how bad they are. That is going to be my next investment after the cab is built is a new digital camera so I can do my babies justice. My mother plant is doing well I had to up pot her as she was very root bound and not putting on any more growth, now she is in a 15 gallon pot and continuing to grow. Hopefully she will be done by the end of the month if not by the first week or so of Oct. I will be starting a grow journal for this new cab probably by the end of next week as soon as I get the cab. here and set up there are still a few bugs I need to iron out before she is running but nothing major thanks for every ones input it has really helped me on my way to getting this thing done.

That works out to 162wpsf(watts per square foot-if my crap math is right), you'll only need around 50wpsf, could go a little higher, but a 250w HPS is far too much in such a little cab. 1.55 square feet youve got, if im reading that right. a 70w hps would give you 45wpsf, a 150w would give you 97wpsf, which is overkill imo. aim on the smaller side i would, or get/make a bigger cab!
G'Luck!

Scrogger beat me to it. Unless stealth free is acceptable and you plan on hanging massive, screaming loud fans to the outside of the box where all can see and hear, a 250 is begging for trouble.

Booster fans are call such because they provide a boost to your real fan. Boosters are axials, the least effective at moving air under pressure. On their own, boosters are generally useless.

Intake fans are the easiest, fastest way to achieve positive pressure. Positive pressure allows air to bypass the filter rendering it useless. We want negative pressure. The easiest, fastest way to get there is to avoid intake fans. Leave intake fans to the experts.

Punch 3 equal sized holes in the cab. One at the top for powered exhaust, two at the bottom for passive intake.

I used a HPS 400w with air cooled hood in half of a bedroom closet with sliding doors. The problems i had were noise from the multi fans i used and the serious heat the ballast put out. Skunk 1, no problems with odor. Long flowering time with up high.

Maybe not

Maybe not

Not everyone can go vertical but, it kicks horizontals ass while doing the polka.

Plants don't grow the way your showing using all the sq.ft. you refering to. The only way to work the plans as you show them woulf be SOG with clones and flowered at a very short height and lots of them.:ying:

I've heard of new math, this is the first I've heard of new physics. Since when do plants not grow upwardly? "SOG with clones and flowered at a very short height and lots of them" are not required (though doable by those who would care to.) A single plant can fill that space.

Whats been done, what can be done

Whats been done, what can be done

had nothing to add till now

to doubters.. just hang your light horizontal and be quiet.

to people who want to maximize their space, keeping reading/looking

Whats been done with 150 hps cooltube:

Plants grow to the light.
more light surface area, more buds

advice for this build, go 150 hps.
just too small for 250.

my current setup is 22x22x28 with 250 hps
heat has been issue but its solvable
no way, i'd recommend trying 250 in a much smaller spot.
