Light "hiccup". Can this cause hermies?

Hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster. There has been a vast amount of knowledge I have learned from here, however I can't find the answer to my question. Here it is.

So when I went to work in the cab the other day, I noticed the lights in the flower chamber were off. After some inspecting up in the electrical chamber, I noticed my manual timer for the flower room lighting had one of the pegs lifted up two hours into lights on. This caused the lights to cut out for 15 minutes.

Will this 15 minute dark period during the day cycle cause a hermie? I hope this is the reason I found two bananas on one of my nice smelling AKs. I was disappointed because I really like the smell of this plant. So much more fruitier than the other pheno. They are a little over 7 weeks in and the one banana on the inside of a bud-site looked to be older, and one was still fresh and unopened which was visible on the outer edge of the bud. I proceeded to search the whole plant, even inside the buds toward the stem and I haven't found any others. I've had hermies but they usually show many bananas, Since this one only had two I could see, I'm hoping it was the minor lighting issue. Any thoughts/experiences?

My power goes out a lot in the spring, and Fall. I have only had plants Hermi from it when it was multiple times per day for almost a couple of weeks. I have not ever had a problem when it just happened once or twice. You could have a sensitive plant. Maybe it just took one time, or maybe it's just in the genes. I have 4 or 5 strains that will throw nanners no matter what. If I take care of them properly then it is just a few. The irony is they are my top strains.

I guess I should say that the timer was set like this for a while. 2 months or more. I hope its just a sensitive pheno and I will clone the mother I took and see if the next ones hermy. At least it isn't popping nanners everywhere, that is the only good sign that the 15 minutes of dark in the middle of every light cycle since the start of flowering messed with them a bit.

If it is just prone to hermy and its only a few nanners, I can just pluck em as I see em. Now that I know to look for em on that pheno.

I have an auto-herm. Six weeks into bud nanners start climbing up the plant. I went nuts for awhile trying to fix this. Now I live with it, the plant is killer and clones robustly.
I let a tray go ten weeks for some folks that wanted sativa seeds, I assume they are the same as clones.
After the seeds were pulled out the smoke reportedly was closer to an indica. Hmmm? Ripeness counts? I usually harvest at seven.

Yeah if you let a strain go long its less uppy and more couchlocky. Basic knowledge...

I hope your shit is auto-herming because of your LEDs or the spectrums you play with, and not because of genetics exclusively.

If it is, you have committed a great grower sin passing those crap genes around.

It is a lot less worse for a plant to have an interrupted day as opposed to an interrupted night.

During the day, interrupting the light is similar to a cloud passing. There is even a study that shows plants will continue to carry out photosynthesis for a bit when the lights go out during this time.

During the night, if the darkness is interrupted it can trick the plant to thinking that the nights are shorter than they are. This is a signal for the plant to stop flowering and veg more. When this switch happens, that can trigger hermaphrodites a lot more than what you did.

That is just general though, any sort of stress can induce hermaphrodite plants. I have 5 phenotypes of 3 very different strains which will throw small amounts of bananas when stressed in any of the following ways:

nutrient deficiency/toxicity,
over/under-watering,
darkness interruptions,
physical stress( cracking stems, breaking off branches, etc...) ,
other hermaphrodites nearby,
pests,
light burn.

I have never really had any mold or mildew problems, so I am not sure if that one will cause a switch. Mostly, if the plant has in its genetics the ability to make male flowers, which almost ALL cannabis does. Then it will when stressed enough. The better strains are those which will be less likely to do this or have less potential to do this.

Breeders search long and hard for a true XX-female plant which cannot do this. I read in the Greg Green breeders bible that there is only like 1 in 100 or so, maybe less which are true XX-female plants, the rest are hermaphrodite to some extent.

I really dislike how people hate on hermaphrodite plants. If the plant is manageable in your garden and worthwhile to grow I see no problem with this. Most of the best plants are hermaphrodite, so I see nothing wrong if you can make it work. By minimal work I mean, minimal bananas on the plant with good care, bananas which don't mature before the plant matures, small numbers of bananas early which can be picked off( only good if you grow a few plants, who wants to pick off bananas all day for a week ).

I guess what I am getting at is if the AK pheno is really good, try to grow her as best as possible and see how bad the bananas really are. The stress may have caused it in combo with one of the above things I mentioned. Good luck.

New to this site...I've had a good strain for 5 years, added Northern Lights, and a clone of "god bud" from my patient...now seeds everywhere. I'm bummed but wondering what the heck. I found bananas on my ole faithful strain , picked them off and sprayed all plants with a light dose of Ultra Snow which was reported to sterilize the plants..nope. Part of me wants to start all over with a new strain...the god bud...not. Purely sativia, not a glimmer of indica. Wondering if "god" decided to redo my grow??
