What's new

Show me an LED that actually yields what it promises

So are these available to purchase? I don't see an order form on there.

Do they use fans? That's the one problem with commercial led's I see now. Those fans are freaking loud. Every bit as loud as an hps ballast.

T5s are great for stealth cause they're completely silent. If there is a quality led that is completely silent I'm sold.

those are what Mr. X is using, as mentioned earlier...

here's the grow thread

they are supposed to be very good...

those have no fans...

they are available for purchase buy i don't know how...

led fans may make a little noise, but not like trying to vent/cool an HPS bulb

Here are the Philips led lights also manufactured by them (very close to the evo very modular)

are those the luxom rebels ?

yes i guess, but a old version; the new deep red rebel emitts 30-80% more light/watt depending on current - their interlighting module should have the new emitters packed, reaching ~2µmol/s/w including the driver loss the description says

I have a question-it might be a dumb question but what the hell-I don't mind looking stupid to gain new information.

The Euro LED that is long and has pods of LED's -would it be viable to hang 4 of them on end pointing away from one another for a vertical sativa grow? i.e. a vertical square post of LED light

Have a fan blowing up between them for cooling dispersion.I realize they are not rated for that (I assume) but I can only see possible fan bearing wear increase with the orientation but no other potential drawbacks. What do the guru's say?

I really hope somebody does a vertical with LEDs soon, should be great!

My last grow was just one plant I had a LED panel above. I then got two new panels which I placed at the sides. Worked great!

Ok,here is a question on led lights,if you use a hps and you do DWC you MUST keep your res light tight for various reasons, slime and other things. If you are using led's is it still imperative to keep your res light proof? And also if you are using led's would that not also help to keep the res temps down?I am almost convinced to take the led plunge for many reasons, but I was wondering about these issues with led. The lumigrows I am looking very hard at for my next purchase instead of HPS.
This thread has answered some questions for me instead of having to wade thru the led haters and those that are promoting their leds for their company or own personal gain with no care to those trying to learn and make a informed decision. Thanks SOTF for your unbiased opinon.
Also I know this is a somewhat outdated thread but your never to old to learn a new trick.

I would keep it light proof. I'm sure bacteria doesn't need much light to start growing. Plus it keeps foreign items out of the system.

lol What a bunch of crock 1 watts can't penetrate; that's why my custom osram penetrates more than my HPS

I also have my custom array set up so I can control how many watts my leds get ... they are bright from .8 watts; and I can drive them up to 3 watts and they do not even get luke warm ... I wonder why some leds run so hot?

... they are putting out half the lums of the 5 watt chip of course there guna penetrate + you can have 5 times as many of them and the array uses the same amount of wattage..

5 watt led engine 600MA flux MAX
1 watt osram 330MA @ 1 watt (1-3 watt chip)

radiant flux is another way of measuring lums; converted looks like about the 220lm I stated

350ma of radiant flux is the same as 100lums; they measure it in radiant flux by default for the red spectrum

Cree puts out about 60lms a watt
Philips & Osram 90-110lms a watt

These are the osram led lights I really want ... water cooled bad mofos

I made mine because I have zero trust in led manufactures. I may have used older ballast parts lol but I had a Masters in electrical engineering design my light correctly ...

If I can get over 2grams a watt with them I will them look into the commercial units

I confirm this. My Crees run at 1.5W for red and 2.5W for white and blue. I also have zero trust, but Lumigrow seems decent. I still like building my own panels, I'm a nerd I guess.

i think Mr. X had four 90 watt units (actual output 70 watts) for a total of 280 watts, correct?

still very, very impressive :woohoo: :good:

I googled but all info is in Spanish. I emailed them to ask for English translation as they do not have a translator on their site. Any help appreciated.
