Any guess of how long it may take to be ready to jar? This is my first harvest so im a bit lost on it. I have read all the articles on curing but Im trying to avoid MOLD. Just trying to get down the snap but in half part. That is my main concern.
Keep in mind that dense buds will take longer to dry than fluffy ones. What I like to do is softly pinch a larger stem with some buds on it and slide my fingers over the little stems the bud form on. If they don't snap off, don't think about putting them in a jar yet. When they snap, put them in the jar and open the lid on em for some time each day to let them slowly dry out. Another thing you can do is monitor the weight of some buds over time to see how much moisture is still being let out. The best way is to put buds in a jar with a RH meter inside of it.
I understand why you don't want mold, but once the buds are dried too much, curing is over and there is nothing you can do to start it again. So, take your time and actually feel and try puffin on the buds yourself. There is no way for you to post your RH and temps and for someone to say, wait X days and they will be good.
What you said is actually correct... Hydro's flushing takes much less time than soil... coco, depending on setup, is in the middle... Coco is pots I'd say a week..coco in a recirculating system, I'd say 3-5 days...again depends on one's interpretation of "flushing."
I've also done the low ppm flush as well.I've waited to the last week or so, and fed them with only ~350-500ppm to keep them going...other times, straight tap water (which is around 250.) I've also used the molasses method too...
So there's many options to choose from, though I sometimes lean towards the straight tap if you're in a rush...in which case you are
In my experience, coco flushes in three days, regardless of system.
I've also found that putting a fan directly on buds will spoil the taste regardless of flush, because often it leaves hidden moisture in the bud. Not enough for mold, but just enough that you get that hay smell and taste.
But, ya gotta do what you gotta do, right? I've certainly had more than one time when I had to sacrifice a proper dry and cure due to external issues.
It's not going to effect potency anyway, so, yeah, do what it takes to be safe. If your taste goes off, fuck it, get high as a kite, and you won't care
Besides, sometimes the weed gods smile and you somehow manage to get perfect smoke off a shitty dry. I once had to go to the dehydrator and still came out with wonderful smoke. Had to be divine intervention
Well I ended up jarring the bud in 5 days after being left to hang and dry. Boy did that make a difference when it comes to the smell. They have the "dank" smell that they had when they were growing. I think a lot of people may be getting that hay smell from jarring to early because they are afraid they will be too dry to cure. I jarred some plants earlier and it did have a different smell from the plants I let hang longer. Took a bit longer drying in paper bags for the smell to come around. I willpost some pics and weights up soon.
barry cooper has some good vids regarding the scent cone and k-9's. check it out before you move, wipe down all jars with alcohol to remove any resin tracked onto the lid / jar.
