choosing a mini split a/c?

cheap ones: Klimaire!
more expensive: sanyo, LG, Fujitsu.

know your SEER/EER rating:

"A SEER of 13 is approximately equivalent to an EER of 11, and a COP of 3.43, which means that 3.43 units of heat energy are removed from indoors per unit of work energy used to run the air conditioner or heat pump."

or simply : SEER rating x 0.875 = EER

deciding id rather invest in a mini split a/c, they have a higher SEER/EER rating (example: 12000btu at about 10.5 EER for wall mount and it its about 11.3 EER for a mini split that has a 13 SEER rating. hmm, not that much change, right?

but, with a mini split you seal your room so the air in it is recirculated! sounds like a better method for cooling, thus you'd have less escaping co2 and you could even get rid of the co2 burner and switch to a co2 tank, creating a cooler environment. not that you want to get cooler than 75* because that's optimal for co2 uptake into the plants? (heard 80 degrees for co2, not sure)

maybe less use of the dehumidifier since the burner is replaced with a co2 tank and or i thought the units have dehumidifiers in them. clue me in if im wrong.

what are the pros and cons that you know about on this subject?

mine
Pro: less noise right on the room.
better SEER/RATING on most models
more efficient through recirculating room air
no CO2 escapes so less heat in room (if using burner)
can be places a bit easier in your room, no bulk, just cords
*may allow for less use of dehumidifier and less heat in room

cons: double or triple PRICE. (yet Klimaire is pretty cheap, not sure on quality)
might not have room to place the condenser within range of grow room.

cant think of any more negatives. let me know what you think about brands, the idea of splits or multisplits if there are two plus flowering rooms. anything would helps.

cheers

Klimaire is a cheap brand and like all things, you get what you pay for.
Klimaire is only 13 seer, which means it's not an inverter model, which mean it will run just like a window unit does; It's either on or off.
An inverter model varies the current to to compressor, therefor the compressor is always running but at varying speeds so room temps stay more stable. (My 14K btu Mr.Slim is 21 seer)
Another benefit of an inverter model is that because the compressor is always running the humidity is better controlled. But you'll still need a dehumidifier, no matter what type of AC you use.
Arguably, the best brand currently made is Mitsubishi Mr.Slim. They have the best warranty in the mini split biz and quality is second to none. Yes, it's much more expensive than a Klimaire but I learned the hard way that you can't rely on a cheap brand mini split.
Mini splits can be bought with multiple indoor units so you can cool more than one flower room with only one compressor. But I'd rather buy two units and run them independently. That way if the compressor goes only one room is in jeopardy of over heating.
Besides price, the only con about a mini split is that unless you have a vacuum pump and gauges (and the know how) then you'll have to have an hvac tech come out and vacuum the line set for you. I did my research and bought my own pump/gauges an did the install myself.
Mitsubish, Fujitsu (be careful, Fujitsu WILL NOT honor the warranty if the unit was bought online!)Lg or Sanyo are the only brands I would ever consider buying.

Listen to elvme2, he is the man!
Aw shucks, thanks man:shucks:
3 years ago I got stung by a cheap mini split. Lost what woulda been a 2lb harvest and had to break down for over 6 months trying to find the part I needed to get the thing up/running again.
After that I vowed never to get screwed by a cheap AC again and so I started researching. And researched, and researched, for over a year. Went to HVAC boards and poked around and asked a lot of questions, talked to several local techs, watched a few mini's get installed, asked hundreds of questions; sooner or later when you immerse yourself like that it tends to soak in.
I don't know everything about mini splits, but I know enough to point a grower in the right direction
And so, I pass on what I know. If it helps just one grower avoid mistakes I made then I'm happy.:)
