must have surveyed people out in public - the active stoners. all the fat stoners were sittin on the couch smoking bongloads and eating dominoes. even if they survey come to their doorstep they probably too lazy, stoned or paranoid to get up to answer the door.

i dont think weed itself has anything to do with it. ive maintained same weight rather im smoking or not

Since I'm still trying to lose weight, I try to eat before I smoke and then I don't eat after I smoke.

I remember when I was 18 and lived in Seattle while working a temp job at Nintendo of America. It was the weekend of the World Series and I was sitting in my little apartment getting totally baked. When the munchies hit, I drove up to the McD's and ordered 20 double cheeseburgers, a coke, 5 apple pies and a mcflurry.

EPIC Munchies

lmfmfao, of course pot smokers are thinner, due to record prices most of them have to choose between buying weed & buying food.

LOL that just took me back to highschool.

"You wanna go to McD'S today?"

"Nope, but I got 5 on a blunt"

"Cool, hit up whatshisface"

ATM it is just a correlation, and denying the correlation is just the same as the naysayers who deny MMJ and it's medical properties. Take it for what it is, my .02... It might not be a weight loss miracle but to deny any possibilities as BS and its relation to obesity is shortsighted and narrowminded. Much more productive to discuss our personal experiences like some have done in this thread to try to find other external reasons for the stat if you can't believe it....

correlation is not causation.
and even if there is a correlation there are a ton of third variables, like diet and lifestyle of the participants. they claim to have ruled out third variables, how exactly did they do that? find 1000 ppl with exactly the same caloric intake and same lifestyle??

i call bullshit on this one.

oddly, if I am hungry and I smoke, I get a reduction in appetite. Also, if I am performing an endurance sport, toking seems to help me last longer.

i saw a docu on african native tribes once and they use ganja to reduce appetite. they smoke it when they go hunting and dont have much food on them.

It´s not breaking news that frequent cannabis users burn more calories than non consumers. I read about that years ago. But it doesn´t has to mean that you´ll get skinny from smoking, of course it depends on your calorie intake.

As said before, if you´re really hungry the use of cannabis can lower your appetite, that´s why people in Jamaica or Africa use it against hunger pain. It also depends on the strain of course. Many indicas are well known for heavy munchies... Back in the days when I was smoking all day everyday I often didn´t have enough time to eat lunch so I just lit up a jay and the hunger was blown away.

when I quit smoking I gained a lot of weight. I was always skinny as shit while I smoked. As with everything, it will affect every person differently. In my case, I only ate once a day and would save my smoke for right before a meal. No munchies because when I got them I'd just eat what I would normally eat anyway.

I typically get pretty motivated to go outside and commune with nature after toking. Plus not much feels better then blazing before or after the gym. I saw on that PBS documentary that it makes your heart beat faster. So that could be something too. I definitely wouldn't rule it out based on my personal experience. :good:

I was at a friend's house the other day. Basically, I rolled out of bed, hopped in the shower and went out. Around 4pm I was pretty hungry. Still hadn't eaten. Then we smoked a couple of bowls. And I stopped being hungry for a few more hours. Then I ate a little bit, smoked some more.

I only get "the munchies" late in the day (after 8pm). And I seem to get them whether I've smoked or not.

lol total and utter bullshit.

your weight is related to physical activity vs calorie intake along with the most important part: metabolism.

my brother is 3 years younger then me. he eats fast food every day all day, probably averages 10,000 calories a day, no joke. doesn't do any physical activity at all, and the kid is in flawless shape, flat as a board.

I on the other hand battled weight for years and now that ive gotten it under control smoking does nothing but make me hungry 24/7. I have had to smoke LESS because it fucks up my diet / exercise if i do. I have to eat 1500 calories a day + workout 6days a week to keep it in control

I find it VERY hard to believe your brother nears anywhere close to 10,000 calories a day! and stay slim with ZERO exercise

Most professional bodybuilders don't even eat 10,000 calories a day and they have the highest metabolism of anyone

yup i have a hard time believing that too.
most ppl totally over-/underestimate their calorie intake. with 10.000 kcal/day and no physical activity he would be one fat fuck.

First time back to this thread since posting the article.
I guess everyone's different. Personally, I haven't smoked in about 5 weeks, and I have lost all cravings for sweets. Normally, when smoking, I get a sweet tooth that won't be denied, and I tend to gain weight. Study obviously flawed because sample is small, and they didn't mention what kind of herb was used, ie., Indica or Sativa. That would make a big difference, IMO, because sativa gives me energy, whereas indica puts me on the couch. Guessing indica would tend to make one gain weight, whereas sativa might make one lose weight. They would have to do the study over using both kinds, and with a larger population to make it relevant. But it is interesting to read the responses from folks whose appetite is suppressed by smoking, as one of it's medical uses is appetite stimulation. Not a definitive study, for sure.
I think the one thing it proves is that everyone is different.

I'd like to qualify this, if I may.

When I am hungry and I toke up rather than eating, it does indeed suppress my appetite. My actual "hunger pangs" disappear for awhile. (In my recent example, for a good 2 hours at least.)

After smoking, I do get "the munchies" but it isn't in the form of being HUNGRY. When I hadn't eaten all day and hadn't smoked, I had physical signs that my body was hungry... i.e. my stomach was growling.

When I smoke and get the munchies I don't get "hungry". It doesn't make my body send the signals that I need food. It just makes me want to eat, whether I'm hungry or not.

I would suspect (though cannot confirm) that this is the same with chemo patients.

They have no appetite and are fighting nausea from the chemo and food doesn't taste good, so they don't wanna eat anything and have a hard time keeping it down.

The cannabis helps with the nausea and then they get the munchies. I don't know that this necessarily means that they feel hunger pangs, but that they have "cravings" for food, which the cannabis helps them to enjoy, and the lack of (or lessening) of nausea helps them keep down.

If anyone has any personal experience, please share it.

I totaly agree cuz both me and me sister smoke weed and she is 268 lbs and I am only 150 with a rock hard body. but I work out a lot of my free time.
she hates that I can smoke bud and not eat junk food. when she smokes she eats every thing in sight. :(

I even offerd to help her lose waight but didnt work. cuz she could quit eating.

Smoke or vape some green and then do some exercise it's great. Specially a nice haze or sativa, really gets you going

I am a long time smoker that is aging but still slender and lanky. As I grew older everyone would tell me that weight will eventually catch up to me and I figured it would. However I'm still skinny and smoke the whole day, everyday. I guess it makes a little sense now although I don't see cannabis as the sole contributor as to why I am skinny. It most likely has more to do with genetics.
