MH to reduce Stretch

I'm growing a tall sativas with low height limits. I have them LST'd but I think I will also run the MH for the first two weeks of 12/12 or until I start getting good signs of flowering initiating.

Will running the MH rduce ther stretch much compared to just using the HPS? I know they are going to stretch anyways during the 12hrs dark period but anything I can do to keep them shorter the better.

Also if I do that it wouldn't affect the end product any would it, compared to if I started 12/12 with a hps?

I use a 600w dual arc bulb (300w HPS & 300w MH) for veg / first 2 weeks of flower. I personally have noticed a decrease in stretch from using it as opposed to throwing in the HPS as soon as I flip.

Maybe you should try the Sonlight Agro 400 or 600w hps.

Its a HPS with some blue light also, about 10% or something, ive heard it works pretty good to keep the stretch down.

Absolutely it does. MH for the first 2 or 3 weeks will definitely reduce the stretch by about 10% - 30%. I use this method constantly because i constantly over veg. I have not noticed much of a reduction in yield and i have noticed tighter buds on account the less stem length to fill.

If possible i throw an MH in during week 8 through 10 (i let almost everything go 10 weeks) to increase resin production.

Good Luck

I do exactly that when growing with a single light. MH from start till week 3, then switch to HPS. Since the vast majority of bud forms after 3 weeks, and stretch has stopped, I think it makes sense. Other good option is a dual arc bulb, like a 1000 that has a 600hps&400mh inside it.

Well more equipment isnt an option this go around.. I have to use the new 600w combo I just bought lol....

Thanks for the advise though. I'll try the MH for the first 2-3 weeks and see what happens. :)

Metal Halide bulbs come in different Kelvin Temps.

I always wondered what the best veg MH Kelvin temperature is?

4000k or 5000k or 6500k or 7200k?
