Making Qwiso with moldy buds

I just got back from a visit to my plants to notice my 2 auto's have been attacked by mold. I yanked them up seeing as they were within a week of finishing anyways.

My question is would it be safe to make QWISO with this bud? I hate to see my hard work go to waste.

Please only answer if you have real knowledge. Not second hand "he says, she says" info. :thank you:

I had some buds get moldy some time ago and made qwiso with it and had no ill effects.

The $1000 question, is what kind of mold? All molds are not created equal and some are deadly.

We salvage oil from plants infected with Powdery Mildew and Botrytis (bud rot) by simply filtering out all of the plant material and spores at 0.2 microns, using a syringe filter.

That eliminates the taste and smell, but doesn't address aflatoxins, which can't be filtered out.

Powdery Mildew and Botrytis seemingly do not produce know pernicious aflatoxins, but some molds like the Aspergillus pumps out significant quantities, which are carcinogenic and attack the central nervous system.

Sort of the difference between a succulent Coprinus Shaggy Mane, and an Amanita Death's Angel mushroom.

I suggest using a microscope and identifying what you got, if you don't recognize it. You can find microscope pictures on line.

Unless you had it wet in a dark dank corner, the odds are high that it is either Powdery Mildew or Bud rot. Powdery Mildew is the scourge of our local indoor growers and Bud Rot the outdoor growers.

if you have a microscope (a real one not handheld), you could actually look for spores in your wash. They are pretty easy to spot.

Thanks for the anwsers guys!

It was outdoor So i suspect bud rot. Its a greyish mold covering most of the buds.

Would this be cool for qwiso? Or from what i gather, without a filter it's not worth smoking...

QWISO would work. If you don't filter it, it will taste and smell moldy.

Thanks again gray wolf. I have noticed you are an abundant source of information when it comes to all things hash. :tiphat:

Got any tips for me on storage of qwiso or BHO? I have tried wax paper but I really don't like how it always ends up sticking to the hash after a bit. It's a real PITA.

You're welcome!

I store mine in the frig in a bottle or widemouth jar.

Parchment paper works better than wax paper.

A buddy of mine asked me if he could make BHO out of his buds. I'm trying to get him to either post or let me know what it looks like... How exactly should you filter the buds?

So what about bubble hash with buds that have budrot PM on them.

I have heard that while the trics settle to the bottom of the bag, the mold/Pm will float to the top and can be skimmed off.

Guys, I think the key here is filtering though a .2 micron filter. You don't want those spores in your oil.

I'm not sure about BHO but I don't see how you would do it with bubble. Wouldn't you still have to pull the bag out of the water though all the spores?
