i usually start my seedlings in soil, i didnt know the roots could be that much after only a week.

The answer's in your comment. While food, water and air are all important, the roots prime directive is to find anchorage. You gave it to them so, they stopped looking. Endo denied them, so they went searching. They wont stop until they have something to grab which, of course, they never will so they just keep growing and growing and... A lovely, vicious cycle.

I just started a new batch of seeds that are being maintained in Rockwool cubes until they sex themselves (keeping roots segregated in a shared DWC tub for 3-4 weeks is a royal pain) I was stunned at the slowness of growth. I'd forgotten just how explosive DWC growth can be.

The brown spots can be a sign of pH oscillation ( I went to this a few times) or a result of water (with high PPM level) splash on the leaves.

After adjusting the pH and taking care with water splashing on the leaves (not foliar feeding, just droplets of water with nutes ) and lowering the PPM a bit no more brown spots appears on the new leaves ( and YES, the DWC grow it's extremely fast ! ).

I attached four pics just for comparison.

P.S. For a great yield I suggest a SCROG for your grow. It's the simplest way to achieve big yields on micro grows.

I thought about trying this a while back, but friends kept telling me the PH swings would be a nightmare with only 1 gallon. How's that going for you?

I definitely know it's possible though as I have seen some threads with some pretty small buckets over the years.

Nice show.

much thanks to all the suggestions and comments (read everything multiple times, freezerboys comment was great!) and i love how helpful this forum is. to answer the question above, the city that we are in right now has great tap water and the pH stays between 6.5-7.5 all the time. I haven't used a single drop of pH up or down.. yet. The first grow was a bit different. same set up but we were in a city that had horrible tap water. while it wasn't a nightware to control, it did take a lot more effort to manage, but completely doable if you have the right meters. we're using a hanna pH meter, which is quite expensive (~80), but we probably wouldn't have had a successful grow without it.

the strain is lowryder2, it finishes in about ~65 days

and onto some bad news. we're going to have to ditch this plant because we're moving. we'll probably harvest whatever we can get at day 40... :(

How about you just box up the plant one day and move it first. It is super awesome looking and fits in a small box so let us see all 60 days!

wow is that just 2 weeks from seed? lol imma have to start doing my dwc straight from seed somehow.

is that a special bucket made for dwc? or did you find a 1 gallon and cut it yourself? making me wanna break out the bucket and airpump again but i aint got the room plus i already started em in soil and the roots are established.

did you chop your plant or are you looking for help?

nute burn. check your pH if its in the range you need to water down your solution.

we could use some advice...

again, this will be harvested much early then expected. due to this circumstance, should we cut off small branches so the plant has more energy going towards the main colas, or leave it be...

many lower and smaller side branches are popping up

What's the time frame for harvesting early?
I dont think you're gonna see budsites for another week or so, and trich production is several weeks away.
I've never done an auto, so I could be wrong.

Whoa, Danger Will Robinson!

pH range for DWC is 5.2-6.0. While nutes are acidic and will lower pH, DWC uses nutes at a much lower rate than other methods. I'd be surprised if feeding at a rate the plant desires* will lower pH to proper levels. pH down is dirt cheap (hundreds of times cheaper than vinegar) Used by the drop, in a grow your size a single qt. could last 10 years.

*So, how much does a plant desire? Never ask a chart or another grower. Neither know anything about you, your grow or your plants. Ask your plants, they know and cannot lie.

Start at 1/3-1/2 the rate suggested on the bottle. Measure EC and pH daily and chart in your journal for future ref. EC up, pH down is too rich. EC down, pH up is too lean. EC flat, pH flat looks good on paper but should be avoided in favor of a slow swing. No one pH number allows absorption of all nutes and so a flat reading guarantees unbalanced feeding leading to toxicity or deficiency. Trick is to over/under feed just enough for the swing to occur on your timetable. This allows corrections 2-3 times a month rather than 2-3 times a day.
