many people do different things. some oxygenate and or agitate the res. some use Physan 20, some use H2o2, and the best growers I have ever known use bleach..
I have used bleach on occasion with no ill effects in conjunction to massive aeration & agitation with a big pump, industrial airpump/stones etc and I love h2o2. it never gave me any issues with all kinds of ferts over the years. keeping it cool, covered and well oxygenated should be just fine on its own.

Food grade 55 gallon drum with a lid to keep light out. I might clean it every six months but it stays clean and slime free. From there it goes to another drum for any mixing that might have to be done.

I know it's not what the guy asked but my preference for clean water storage is a rubbermaid brute contractor series with the roller dolly. It wakes moving water such a breeze on concrete or and other smooth surface. Easy to put the ro float check valve right at the top on the side too

A 10% bleach solution works well for sanitizing the rez. I haven't tried it during any grows to prevent algae.
Been using Bionix by Green Cross Hydroponics for the past several grows, including in my EZ cloner, with pretty good results. There is some sediment in my rez from the Bionix but no algae or sludge in my rez and my clones root in about 7 days.
