How to prep water for Beneficial Bacteria....? and roots need to be addressed....

Hello friends.

I have a nice 5 gallon DWC setup that I want to add
beneficial bacteria to.

Im using Rain water.

Now my question is...

I know that there are alot of little critters in this rain water
i use.

So... i was thinking.

would it be better for me to "Clean" the water first by adding bleach..

at 2 ounces per gallon(is that to much or just enough?)

then add my Beneficial bacteria? im planning on getting
Hygrozyme.

does that sound ok to do?

would I have to wait a period of time after I add the bleach before I add the hygrozyme?

I am having a hell of a time getting this new setup dialed in.

The tops of my plants look great... nice and green showing new growth.

There roots were looking great yesterday right before the weekly maintenance.. full res flush out with new nutes.

Going on 2 week this past sunday.
currently im using...

Advanced Nutes...
- 3 part at the 1-2-3 ratio... Grow Micro Bloom
- SeniZym
- RhinoSkin
- B-52

I adjust the ph of the rain water to... what looked to me
just about 5.5...i believe it might need to come down tad... because the color of the pH test just slightly looks to be 6ph.

I have hellya amount of bubbles in the buckets.. im thinking possibly to many lol..

There is a foam build up after a while.

The water temps are 73-75 degrees F.

What you guys think?

I also.. purchased some General Hydroponics 3 part.
Was going to put that in one of the buckets to see how the
roots turn out after a few days.

Thanks friends.
Cheers

hey there il- i do 5 gal dwc using rainwater.i just filter it though about 10 layers of cheesecloth and use subculture B as my bennie. never had any root issues. just my opinion but i never use bleach in my buckets except to rinse them out.

i like to use sm-90

its a fairly organic method of deterring insect pests and gets rid of detrimental bacteria without killing the good ones

its coriander oil (1.0%) an organic alcohol (triethanolamine 5.0%) in minuscule amounts mixed with an inert oil (canola iirc)

it kills anaerobic bacteria (the bad ones) but does not hurt aerobic bacteria (the good ones)

Do not ue Hygrozyme. Dint use it. Save yourself.

THIS. dude do NOT use hygozyme. It is seriously root rot in a bottle. If you wanted to add bacteria to a DWC, I would first advise AGAINST it and to keep a sterile res with sm-90 like someone said. If not, try to brew some act, and if at anything add some EWC to your water, people have had amazing results.

You don't need to do anything. If you've been running your system for two weeks and your plants are healthy, you already have beneficial bacteria growing. The bacteria is present in the air and unless you live in the desert, the bene's will grow by themselves. You need only to provide a place for the bacterium to live (your rocks, hydroton or whatever you use in the netpot) and move water through the rocks. That's it!

EDIT: I forgot to add that your netpot should be about 1/3 submerged at all times so that the beneficials are exposed to the moving water. No air gaps.

Agreed with petemoss.....and if you need further proof of reason read " bigtoke's biobuckets" sticky! It's an excellent read by bigtoke and guest stars a few other biobucket growers including petemoss!
