Marijuana smokers are thinner, less likely to be obese than non-smokers, according to

I know fat stoners, scrawny stoners and average stoners. I don't believe that weed intake has much correlation with weight unless you're on chemo and using it to stimulate appetite. Otherwise, it's just a simple matter of folks across the entire weight spectrum enjoy smoking herb. Weed doesn't affect my weight nearly as much as my beer intake.

edit: I was a scrawny young man. My weed intake didn't vary much over the years, but my weight has. Weed won't keep you skinny or make you fat, it is your lifestyle choices

drink lots of water and fruit and yogurt or high protein foods and snacks... control yourself . don't buy junk food so you won't be likely to reach for it at home. I'm just as likely to crave junk even when im not high, only difference is i can eat a lot more after i smoke.

Spent years in the health industry helping people lose weight. I completely agree with everything you just said. Control. Always remember that your willpower happens at the grocery store. Yogurt, fruit, cheese & crackers, egg whites, grains.....that's what you want at your house. When you get the munchies, you either eat something wholesome or just forget about those Oreos because you don't have them. Just doing that alone helped me start losing some baby weight, without having to try. Living in the country helps too, lol....you're not gonna drive a half hour for Chinese food. If you do, you've earned that gut!! :D

I have an easier time being a non-drinker too, beer munchies are way worse than weed munchies.

My 2 cents... When i stopped smoking for a half+ year, i drank more beer = gained weight. Now i have some weed, i hardly drink.

Good point. My girlfiend has said that for me it's either one or the other.

Another factor regarding the question of causation: Does smoking cannabis help prevent obesity, or are those with active metabolisms more likely to become pot smokers?

Im with mad librettist & soil margin, Im a heavy daily smoker and if i could take pill each day and not eat I would do that.

That said I drink a lot, constanly as I smoke so that could be a link.

Attention grabbing propaganda, all of it, right up to the part where they say...
"The take-home message is certainly not 'smoke cannabis, it will help you lose weight,'" Le Strat said. "The possibility that cannabis is associated with a lower risk of obesity remains an interesting hypothesis, but certainly does not counterbalance its negative effects on health and mental health."
Then it became the usual bullshit MJ propaganda, and the only reason what came before it, did.
To once again nag and harp and beat the drum of the same old bullshit. Hehe, loose weight and MJ in the same article, brilliant attention grabbing work on their part.
Great way to get as many readers drawn in as possible.

Shit man, even Bullshit looks at that and says "we couldn't hope to be more full of shit than that"

"Our studies confirmed that blue-eyed people were more likely to believe the moon was made of green cheese than the general population.
We need further research to determine if there is a genetic predisposition to believe stupid stuff because we infer a causual effect between blue eyes and cheese belief, due to the random and arbitrary sampling of this study."

This has to be a govt. sponsored grant. Who else would spend money for this kind of 'science' ? Workfare for sociology majors and their professors.

It is nice to know that useless wasteful 'research' is not a strictly American phenomena.

it's cause a stoner is less likely to be movitavated enough to walk to the kitchen/fridge, much less cook up a storm ;)
and yeah, too lazy to go to the supermarket, ... etc..

Since I have quit smoking I have gained weight from stress, as well as not eating right. It did seem easier to maintain the weight while I was smoking. I can't wait till I get another grow going and am back to smoking kind.

seems a lot of people eat out of boredom. I vape when I'm bored

sometimes got the munchies as a kid, but there is really not that much i Can eat and you quickly get bored with food in that circumstance.

frankly i can go 2 days without even thinking about food. once went seven just for the heck of it, but then i started to get weak (oh im pretty underweight, my wife is constantly offering to cook for me :))

but usually i tend to eat when i feel the body requires it and eat what i crave.

though i always (99.9%) cook and eat my own food, from scratch. fastfood just is utter an total crap , once you start to do that (plus its actually less timeconsuming cooking it..)

even the best pizzaplaces (i love pizza) just are total tasteless cardboards.

add to that boredom with food and i just dont touch fastfood.

I gotta disagree with you guys dismissing the research out of hand. First off, there is a difference, medically, in being obese and just being overweight.

Second, weight is controlled by metabolism, not just caloric intake and excercise, as exemplified by the little brother chilling on the sofa stuffing thousands of calories into his flat belly. Your metabolism is primarily controlled chemically by the brain. It can be trained and reprogrammed, but it is still chemically controlled.

Look at diabetics, who have to take hormones to control how their body handles food. When you look at the studies on diabetes and cannabis, cannabis can help moderate fluctuations in diabetic symptoms. I personally know a guy who was a regular toker from 14. He stopped for a bit to clean up his act, 30 days later, in the hospital due to complications from uncontrolled Type 2 diabetes. Docs couldn't figure out how it had remained undagnosed for so long. He starts smoking again, and within 2 weeks, he was able to stop the diabetes meds.

Even for me, who is a strong proponent of Cannabis, I was quite shocked. Anecdotal, and a lot of missing information, but a clear link for me.

So, I can absolutely see Cannabis effecting your metabolism in a positive way. Of course, that means different things to different people. If your metabolism is low, it speeds up, you see weight loss. If your metabolism is high, it slows, you see weight gain. Normal metabolism means you just need to work on your willpower :D

Still hate to see the bullshit at the end "negative health effects"... Name one motherfucker!

lmfmfao, of course pot smokers are thinner, due to record prices most of them have to choose between buying weed & buying food.
