Carbon filter or Ozone generator?

Was looking at building a new room and cant decide between using carbon filters or an ozone generator. air will be exhausted out a window so ozone overdose isnt a problem. the problem is i have no experience with an ozone generator and dont know how well they really work at eliminating odors. anyone got any personal experience with them?

I often use both. Carbon to try to keep the smell contained and ozone when it isn't contained. Sterilize the air in a huge room in a few minutes. Mine is 3500 an hour unit.

Heres my 2 cents- you can never have enough odor control no matter what. As far as which filter gives the biggest bang for the buck- jury still out. get the biggest filter that you can afford. My opinion is the phresh filters are poorly constructed, the cans are of excellent construction but heavy. I have a mt air 12x20 and yet to rock it but looks like good construction.

There seems to be a difference of opinion to how long they last- some say 6 months, other say 12months to 15 months.. Ive yet to own a filter to completely eliminate 100 percent of the smell. Depending on the amount of duct length,an ozone genny can definately neutralize the other 10 percent. Using ozone can be tricky because if the air velocity is too fast in the duct the smell will not have time to be neutralized.

If you have an extra room dump there and ozone that area. Im still waiting for someone to post a ozone mixing chamber that doesnt cause fan back pressure. If you are going to dump it outside, run long ass duct runs and let your nose be the tester for you outside at the terminal end.

this worked for me... exhaust box on the left. small ozone genny mixed with exhausting air before exiting across a 12" x 14" x 2" layer of carbon. passive intake into a neg pressure grow chamber, pc fan pulling air out of grow chamber and into slightly positive pressured exhaust box...

used one of these

not really any back pressure to speak of, maybe due to the large exit vent. cleaned up every single strain i ever grew in this cab, but some wonderful afghani that could be smelled if in the same room as the cabinet.

I agree with those claiming both, providing the Ozone is exhausted.

BTW, it is very easy to build a very powerful Ozone generator for about $25. So powerful that you really must exhaust it all.

I like carbon filters but having an ozone gen is great to have either on the side or as a combination for the strains that even carbon filters don't contain 100%. I am thinking of doing something similar to you as I'm almost 40floors above ground level but to honest I'm only going to do this during summer or when it's hot as the amount of heat I generate is good for a little bit of warmth around the place! Just be sure to run a back draught shutter towards the duct exit so you don't risk having strong wind or anything blow up your ducting and causing havoc. I have Ionizers in the home also to kill anything that the carbon filter doesn't. I used to run an ozone gen for this purpose and to kill any leftover smells but I lent it to someone who has "dissappeared" along with my gen which is a real piss me off as they really do a great job especially as ozone has it's own smell which lingers and tends to make the place smell clean, if you get what I mean.

I have used both started with just carbon, but when you enter extra smelly mode. e.g last week of flower & cutting down of plants its best to have Ozone, I use a skunk buster works a treat. The whole reason we use these things is for security of our selves & crop I believe when it comes down to the crunch get the best your pocket can afford.
I would rate good Ozone machines better than Carbon filters if done properly . I use both carbon & ozone as needed.

ozone does leave a fresh, clean smell. It is apparent in nature when you step outside on a bright hot sunny day sometimes or after it has rained. it's recognizable once you know what it smells like.

however, it can be damaging/deadly in large doses so use caution. i used test strips to see if mine little genny would be ok. mine is sold as safe for living areas and the test strips agreed. very little ozone, but very effective.

as others have said if you exhaust the ozone outside the building you should be good. and very few ozone gennys are safe in living areas, so be careful. buy cheap test strips to insure your safety...

i run one in another area on timer just because. no fabreeze needed :D

thanks everyone. i will probrably do both as several have suggested. gonna be using carbon filters in the boxes and vent the room as a whole through the window. thanks again everyone.
